`IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-CASES FOR WATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,171, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ISAAC S. HUCKlNs, of We nona, in the coimty of Bay and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Gase for Watches; and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a showcase for watches or other articles, and also in the manner of attaching hooks to plate-glass in show-cases, all of which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of my show-case, and Fig. 2 is a section through a plate of glass, with the hook through the same.
A represents the outer frame, constructed in any suitable manner, to be placed and, if desired, secured in the window. The outer side of the frame A is provided with a plate, B, of glass, and the inner side is provided with a door, C, composed of a sash with plate-glass. This door is hinged at one edge and fastened at the other by a spring-catch or other suitable means. Inside of the main frame A is hinged a sash, I), with plateglass E, in such a manner that it can be readily lifted off its hinge to be placed in the safe with the watches hanging on it. The plates B and E are provided with any desired number of holes, drilled through the glass. and hooks fastened in the said holes in the following manner: Through each hole in the plate E is passed a double hook, a., provided with a flange, b, to bear against one side of the glass. On the other side of the glass a flanged nut, d, is put on the double hook, which is for this purpose provided with screw-threads, and this nut is screwed down, which fully secures the hook to the glass. In like manner single hooks a are secured to the plate B, said hooks having a buttonon the outer end and on the inside fastened by a anged nut.
These hooks and method of fastening them to the glass may be used for displaying other articles in any other kinds of show-cases.
The merits of the watch-case are to expose the watch to view both outside and inside the store. It gives rest to the watch, so that it cannot swing, which is -of the greatest importance in regulating.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. rIhe combination of the frame A, plate-glass B, glass door G, and interior removable sash D with plate-glass E, the plates B and E being provided with suitable hooks, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. A glass plate for a show-case, provided with small holes through which is passed a metallic single or double hook, a, having a head or flange, b, and secured by a flanged nut, d, all as shown and described. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hav hereunto set my hand this 16th day of September, 1871.
ISAAC S. HUGKINS.
