PENCIL-TOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1917.
Application led February 25, 1916. Serial No. 80,461.
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for pencils and has for its primary object to provide an attachment by means of which suitable indicating and advertising means may be supported upon a pencil.
An object of the invention is to provide a device for supporting indicating or advertising means upon a pencil in such a position as to be readily viewed by the Writer.
Another object of this invention is to provide an attachment so constructed as to detachably support indicating or advertising means or both.
With these and other objects in View, the
- invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed Out in vthe claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment shown applied to a pencil; Fig. 2 is a view on an enlargedy scale. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 4; is-a horizontal sectional view.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a pencil to one end of which is applied the attachment 2. .Y
At the start, I wish it to be understood that although the attachment is shown applied to the usual rubber end of the pencil, I wish it to be understood that the same may be applied to the sharpened end of the pencil so as to protect the point during the idle periods ofthe pencil.
The attachment comprisesa casing 3 having a partition dividing the interior of the casing into a card compartment and a compartment l1 that receives one end of the v pencil. A slot 4 is formed in two opposite side walls 5 and 6 of the card compartment, the slot extending through one end of the casing. In this particular instance I have shown slidably mounted in the card compartment a plurality of cards 7 all of which with the exception of an end card has printed thereon the 'days of the month. This mentioned end card 8V has printed thereon any suitable advertisement.
For preventing displ-acement of the cards,
I provide a cap 9 completely inclosing one end of the casing which is provided with inclosedslots as indicated at l0. From this arrangement it will be seen that the walls of the card compartment are prevented from bending out of place, while at the same time any suitable indicia upon the cards may be visible through the slots l0.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying-drawing, it should be apparent that I-provide a device Which is admirably adapted for the purposel for which it is intended, that the device is simple, durable and eicient lof construction, and that the device may-be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
What I claim isz- A pencil attachment comprising a plu'` other receiving one end of the pencil, two opposite walls of Said card compartment being formed with slots extending through one end of the casing, and a cap completely inclosing the card end of the casing and having inclosed slots arranged parallel to I portions of the-slots in said side walls..
In testimony whereof I aiiix my slgnature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK IJ. Romana.
