2 Claims. (Cl. 40-15) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in military campaign ribbon or barholders, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, novelmeans for mounting such ribbons in straight, parallel, uniformly and permanently spaced rows.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a holder of the aforementioned character wherein ribbons of either the sliding or snap type may be readily mounted thereon or removed therefrom.

Still another important object of the invention is to provide a military campaign ribbonholder of the character described which may be repeatedly secured in position on a uniform or other garment and removed therefrom with minimum damage thereto.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a military campaign ribbon holder of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure l is a perspective view, showing a military campaign ribbon holder embodying the present invention in use;

Figure 2 is an enlarged view in transverse section,

. taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; and

Figure 3 is a perspective view, showing a campaign ribbon or bar in position to be slipped on the holder.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a plurality of uniformly spaced, parallel campaign ribbon receiving bars of suitable plastic or metal, preferably the former, which bars may be of any desired length. The ribbon bars 4 are rigidly secured together in uniformly spaced parallelism through the medium of integral connecting bars or ribs 5. In the embodiment shown, the connecting ribs have embedded in their intermediate portions nuts 6. As shown to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing, the nuts 6 are exposed at the backs of the ribs 5. The nuts 6 are for the reception of knurled, headed thumb screws 7 for removably securing the holder on a uniform or other garment, as indicated at 8.

The bars 4 are adapted to carry in spaced, parallel straight rows a plurality of conventional military campaign ribbons 9. Toward this end, the longitudinal edges of the bars 4 are provided, in the back portions of said bars, with grooves or rabbets 10 for the reception 2,832,161 Patented Apr. 29, 1958 flanges 11 engaging in the grooves or rabbets in an obvious manner. The loaded holder is now ready to be mounted on the uniform or other garment 8. This may be expeditiously accomplished by simply inserting the screws 7 through the garment and threading said screws into the nuts 6. When thus mounted the holder will display the wearers uniform between the bars 4 and between the ribs 5 to provide a color contrasting background for the ribbons 9 visible through the holder. The campaign ribbons 9 at times include one or more stars (not shown), secured thereon by Wires. The bars 4 are accordingly provided, at spaced points, with longitudinal slots 13 which permit such wires to be inserted through said bars and secured. In the embodiment shown, the bars 4 are of equal length and each accommodates three of the campaign ribbons 9. However, if desired, one of the bars l, preferably the uppermost, may be of a length to receive but one or two of the ribbons 9. In this event the relatively short upper bar 4 will be centrally located on the upper end portions of the connecting bars or ribs 55 for balance and appearance.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and de scribed, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A holder for military campaign ribbons of the type including inturned longitudinal marginal flanges, said holder comprising: a plurality of separate bars for receiving the ribbons thereon, said bars having rabbets in the longitudinal marginal portions thereof for the reception of the ribbon flanges, internal spaced apart ribs rigidly cross connecting the bars in separated spaced apart parallel relation, and means for removably securing the bars on a garment, said means including nuts embedded in the connecting ribs, and thumb screws for penetrating the garment threadedly mounted in the nuts.

2. A holder for military campaign ribbons of the type including inturned longitudinal marginal flanges, said holder comprising: a plurality of separate bars for receiving the ribbons thereon, said bars having rabbets in the longitudinal marginal portions thereof for the reception of the ribbon flanges, internal spaced apart ribs rigidly cross connecting the bars in separated spaced apart parallel relation, means for removably securing the bars on a garment, said means including nuts embedded in the connecting ribs, and thumb screws for penetrating the garment threadedly mounted in the nuts, said ribs having transverse grooves therein communicating with the rabbets for the reception of the flanges.
