Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ne is, rare.
Application filed September 6, 1916. Serial No. 118,671.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER E. TAYLoR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, in the State of'Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Pins, of which the following is a specification. M invention relates to hairpins, and one of the main objects thereof is to providc' such devices which will not be accidentally dislodged, which may be readily withdrawn,
and which will not injure the hair.'
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being an elevation of the hairpin, partly in section to show a detail of the construction.
Referring to the drawing 1 represents a at length of wire bent, at 2 to provide two legs 3 and l pointed at their ends, eachleg con sisting of two members 5 and 6 tel'escoped one upon the other, and spring bows 7 and 8 which yield under slight pressure into flattoned positions, or substantially so, whereby the legs may be passed readily between the strands of hair, said bows automatically assuming their normal bowed form when the pin is in place, thereby preventing the acci- 'dental removal thereof. 7 y
The telescoped portions of the legs serve Letters Patent is 1'. A. hairpin consisting of'a length of wire bent into a loop to form legs in substantial parallelism, spring bows on each leg yielding under pressure into flat form, each 1e being interrupted in the position of sai bows to permit such bow action, and means forming apart of each leg and arranged between the respective bows for preventing the flexing of the axes of said legs in the positions of said bows.
2. A hairpin consisting of a length of wire bent into a loop to iorm substantially parallel legs eachof which is formed of two telcscopccl members joined by oppositely arranged spring bows.
