H. HILLEBRAND HAIR HOLDING DEVICE FiTed Nov. 12, 1924 jzem i/mrm ATTORNEY wn-m-zss:
l atented Apr. 28, 1925.
UNITED STATES HENRY HILLEBRAND, OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
HAIR-HOLDING DEVICE.
Application filed November 12, 1924. Serial No. M9520.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, HENRY I'IILLEBRAND, a citizenof the United States, residing at Saratoga Springs, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Holding hair back off the face and which is especially adapted for use by ladies having short or bobbed hair.
Another object of the invention resides in a device which is supported from the ear of the wearer in a manner whereby the same is partially concealed so as not to distract from the attractiveness of the headdress.
A further object of the invention resides in a device of the type mentioned which is formed from a single piece of relatively stiff wire which is bent to form an ear engaging portion, and a plurality of hooks for supporting the front locks of hair.
A still further object is toprovide a hair holding device which is simple in construction, cheap of manufacture and easy to apply to or remove from the head of a person.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view showing my invention in use upon the head of a person.
liigure 2 a perspective view of my invention per sc.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my invention in its entirety and which includes attaching means 11. and hair holding means 12. The device is formed of a single piece of relatively stiflf wire bent to form a large hook 13 which constitutes the attaching means 11. After forming the hook 13 the wire is bent outwardly and twisted to provide spaced hooks 14 which constitute the hair holding means 12 and which hooks are smaller than the hooks 13 and the same are arranged in alignment with each other.
- the side of the head In practice, the device is applied for use by passing the hook 13 over the ear of the wearer so that the hooks 14 extend outwardly from the side of the head. The front locks of the hair are drawn back over the hooks 14 in a manner shown in Figure 1 and are held from dropping over the face which has been found to be annoying.
It will be understood that the devices will be manufactured in pairs, each pair including a right and left device for opposite sides of the head and will prove useful by ladies having bobbed or short hair.
WVhile I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
VVha-t is claimed as new is z- 1. A device of the class described comprising a body portion formed with a plurality of outwardly extending hooks, the bills of which are disposed parallel to the body portion and means for attaching said member to the ear of a person.
2. A device of the class described comprising a body portion formed with a plurality of outwardly extending hooks, the bills of which are disposed parallel to the body portion and a relatively large ear engaging hook for supporting the device upon the head of the wearer.
3. A hair holding device comprising a body portion formed with a relatively large hook at one end for engagement with the ear of a wearer, and a pliiirality of spaced hooks adapted to extend outwardly from for holding the hair off the face.
1. A new article of manufacture co1nprising a single piece of relatively stiff wire bent to form a large hook for engagement with the ear of a wearer, and a plurality of smaller spaced hooks which project outwardly from the head of the wearer for holding the front locks of hair OK the face.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
HENRY HILLEBRAND.
