DIVING-DRESS.
Application filed August 17, 1916.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN STELZNER, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Liibeck, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Diving-Dresses, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in diving-dresses and more particularly refers to the coupling means for connecting the three partsdiving helmet, shoulder-piece and diving-dress proper. In coupling devices hitherto used for the said purpose, there are usually employed three coupling-bolts.
The object of the invention is to simplify the said coupling device in such a manner that there are necessary only two couplingbolts without interfering with the reliable and watertight connection ofthe said three parts.
With this end in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described.
I attain the object' aimed at by the means illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings in which:
- Figure 1 is front view of the helmet, shoulder-piece and the upper part of the diving-dress constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan of the shoulder-piec and the divingdress buttoned thereto.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the figures.
The flange a of the diving-helmet a and the flange b of the shouldenpiece b have each two bolt-holes arranged to register with each other for the accommodation of two coupling-screw-bolts 0 c. The flanges must have, of course, such thickness or strength that they do not yield when screwing home the screw-bolts c c.- I
The collar 03 of the diving-dress d is provided with two lateral holes a (Fig. 2) cor responding to and arranged to register with the bolt-holes through the flanges a and b and with a front and a rear flap I each havin a button-hole f The flange b of the shoulder-piece 7) carries at front and in the back for each of the button-holes f a suitable button 9, to which the flaps f of the collar d after being passed from below through the central open- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing of the annular shoulder-piece I) are buttoned from above, as is evident from the figures. The helmet (L is then placed with its flange a on the collar (Z spread over and covering the upper face of the flange of the shoulder-piece b, whereupon the two screw-bolts 0 c are put through the registering bolt-holes of the flanges and the holes 6 of the collar (l and the said flanges and the collar between them firmly and tightly clamped together by screwing home the nuts of the said bolts.
According to the invention the collar (Z is reliably held in place at four points by means of the two buttons g' and the two screw-bolts 0 whereas in many devices al-' ready known it is fastened only at three points by means of three screw-bolts. The fastening of the collar at four points affords the advantage that the collar d will be always in proper position on the flange or collar-ring b of the shoulder-piece b. The buttoning of the collar (1 in the manner shown to the buttons 9 facilitates also the operation of putting up the helmet, as the collar after its being buttoned to the said buttons, is held or tentered always in the proper position on the'flange b. A further advantage is obtained by the invention overexisting devices utilizing three couplingbolts for fastening purposes in that one coupling-bolt is saved and the putting on and removing of the helmet can be effected more easily and more readily than in coupling devices having three coupling-bolts.
I claim:
1. The combination of a diving'dress having a neck portion, a shoulder piece, a helmet, cooperatingmeans carried by said neck portion and shoulder piece respectively whereby said neck portion and shoulder piece are detachably connected together independently of the helmet and means for detachably connecting said helmet and said shoulder piece, said last named means passing through a part of said neck portion to secure it in position independently of said cooperating means.
2. The combination of a diving dress having a neck portion, a shoulder piece fitting over said neck portion, projections on said shoulder piece, flaps on said neck portion adapted to be 'detachably connected with said projections whereby said neck portion and shoulder piece are detachably connected together, a helmet, and means Whereby said helmet is detachably connected with said shoulder piece.
3. The combination of a shoulder piece, a col lar-ring carried thereby and provided With a pair of bolt-holes at diametrically opposite points, projections on said collar-ring at diametrically opposite points between said bolt holes, a diving dress having a neck portion extending through said shoulder piece, a collar on said neck portion in surface contact with said collar-ring and provided with apertures in registry with the bolt-holes thereof, flaps on said collar adapted to be detachably connected with said projections whereby said
