To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAGNUS B. Pn'rnnsnn, a subject of the King of Norway, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Key-Looking Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a means for appllcation to a door lock and key to hold the key from being surreptitiously turned in the lock.

My improved device includes a member adapted to be inserted in the keyhole beneath the stem or shank of the key and having a head provided with co-acting movable and relatively fixed members to engage the bow or ring of the key and hold the same against turning or displacement.

The invention will be particularly explained in the specified description following.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved key-locking device showing the same in use; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the locking device with the key in position thereon; Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 1 1s a perspective view of the locking device without the key.

In carrying out my invention, a head or body 10 is provided, extending rearwardly from which is a flat shank 11, which is adapted to be inserted in a keyhole 7) of a door lock B, beneath an inserted key A. ()n the head 10 I provide co-acting movable and relatively fixed members constituting a keylocking means, and this key-locking means, in the preferred construction, is duplicated on each side of the head. so that even a slight turning movement of the key and the straining of the same cannot be produced. In the preferred form as illustrated, I form on the head 10, at the top, a flat transverse member 12, which, when the shank 11 is inserted beneath the key, will be disposed directly beneath the ring or bow a of the key A. The member 12 is formed with vertical holes 13 at each side of the head 10. On the head 10, at each side, are vertically disposed hooks 15, the shanks of which are preferably flattened and the downwardly disposed bills 14 of the hooks are adapted to be inserted through the bow a: of the key and through the holes 13. The hooks 15 are rockable and slidable in their own vertical planes, for which purpose rivets 16 extend transversely through said hooks and through a vertical slot 17 in the head 10. In the shanks 15, below the rivets 16, transverse holes 18 are formed, and a corresponding hole 19 is produced transversely in the head 10 below the slot 17.

With the described construction, the key A having been inserted in the lock and turned to dispose the bit thereof laterally, the shank 11 is inserted in the keyhole b beneath the key, thereby disposing the flat member 12 beneath the bow on of the key and with the holes 13 registering with the opening in the bow. The hooks 15 are now manipulated to enter the bills 14 through the bow of the key and through the holes 18, in which position of the hooks, the holes 18 thereof will be in register with the hole 19 of the head 10, so that the shackle of a padlock C may be passed through the said hooks and head. Thus, the key will be prevented from being surreptitiously turned or forced out of the lock, and at the same time, the locking device positively locked to the key, and thus held against displacement.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A device of the class described including a shank adapted to be inserted in a keyhole, a head at the outer end of the shank presenting a transverse member at the top adapted to lie beneath the bow of a key, when the latter is turned to dispose the bit of the key laterally in a lock, said top member having vertical holes therein at the sides of the head, and vertically disposed hooks on the head at the sides thereof, said hooks being mounted on the head for pivotal and sliding movement in their vertical planes to extend the bills of the hooks through the said holes of the top member, the shanks of the hooks, below the pivots thereof, having transverse holes therein, and the said head having a transverse hole which is in alinement with those of the hooks when the bills of the hooks are disposed in the said vertical holes of the top member.

2. A locking device for keys, having a shank adapted to be inserted in a keyhole,
