SKEE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application filed March 4, 1916. Serial No. 82,179
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. BREN- NAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dannemora, in the county of Clinton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Skee Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for skees whereby it is possible to travel uphill readily and without danger of slipping backwardly, the attachment being so constructed that it will not interfere with the forward movement of the skee.
A further object is to provide an attachment which can be applied readily to a skee already in use and which attachment is simple in construction and cheap to manufacture.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a portion of a skee having the present improvements combined therewith, the position of the attachment during the forward movement of the skee, being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line AB Fig. 2.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a portion of a skee having the usual arrangement of foot engaging straps 2. The attachment constituting the present invention is adapted to be applied to the top of the skee close to the rear portion of the heel strap 2 and includes opposed bearing members 3 and 4 adapted to be attached to the top of the skee in any desired manner, as by means of screws 5 extending through ears 6 projecting in opposite directions from the bearing members.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for The bearing member 3 has an inwardly extending stop projection 7. Arranged between the bearing members 3 and 4t is a plate 8 having trunnions 9 extending laterally from the front end thereof, these trunnions being journaled within the bearing members 3 and 4; and being extended laterally beyond the sides of the skee. Depending from the outer or projecting end portions of the trunnions are blades 10 designed, when in their normal positions, to project belowthe lower surface of the skee.
It will be obvious that during the forward movement of the skee, the depending blades 10 will glide over the surface of the snow or ice, so as thus not to interfere to any extent with the movement of the skee. However, should the device be used while traveling uphill, the weight of the plate 8 Will operate to hold the blades 10 projected below the skee so that the lower ends of the blades 10 will dig into the snow or ice and thus prevent the device from slipping backwardly. The upward swinging movement of the blades relative to the skee is limited by the plate 8 coming into contact with the stop projection 7 That is claimed is 1. A skee attachment including spaced bearing members, a weight extending therebetween, trunnions at the forward end of the weight and extending through the bearing members, and blades depending from the trunnions.
2. A skee attachment including spaced bearing members, a weight extending therebetween, trunnions at the forward end of the weight and extending through the bearing members, blades depending from the trunnions, and means upon one of the bearing members and cooperating with the weight for limiting the swinging movement of the blades in one direction.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. BRENNAN.
