REMOVABLE BRACE-BAR FOR TYPE-WRITER TABLES.
neoasao.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 11916.
Application filed. June 15, 1915. Serial No. 34,235.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Farmers M. Mnnsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Brace- Bars for Type-"Writer Tables; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in removable brace bars for typewriter tables and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device which will enable the table to be readily folded and set up for use without inconveniencing the person or user.
A further object of the invention is to provide a brace bar adapted for removable attachments to the rear legs of the table which may be readily applied to the ordinary type of table without materially changing the construction thereof.
l'Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view illustrating the table in its folded position. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation showing the table in its unfolded position, a portion thereof being in section to more clearly illustrate the details of construction, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view through the table showing the brace rods in place.
Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety the top of the table, while the numerals 2 and 3 designate respectively the right and left hand frames carrying the supporting legs. The rear supporting legs designated by the numeral 4 are formed with suitable openings 5 through which the pins 6 extend.
The brace bar is designated by the numeral 7 and comprises a rectangular body formed at each end with the reduced tongues 8, which tongues engage in the grooves or notches 9 formed in the inner faces of the legs 4; Pivotally connected by means of suitable screws 10 are the hooks 11, which are carried by the bar 7 and their free ends are arranged to engage the pins 6 previously referred to. It will be noted that the bottom wall of the groove 9 slopes inwardly and downwardly and forms a shoulder 12 at the end of said groove against which the lower end of the tongue 8 rests.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the bar is slipped in place by passing the tongues 8 into the grooves 9 so that their ends engage the bottom walls of said grooves. The hooks are then secured in the openings 5 and engage the pins 6 thereby bracing the table and holding the same against collapsing. In this way it will be seen that an attachment for typewriter tables is provided which will enable the table to be easily and quickly folded for transportation without the necessity of using a screw driver or any other tool.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodi ment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
l/Vhatis claimed is The combination with a typewriter-table including a table top and legs hinged to the table top and adapted to support the same, the said legs being provided with longitudinal grooves near their upper ends and having longitudinal slots formed below the grooves, of a horizontal brace bar, tongues on opposite ends of the brace bar adapted to enter the grooves in the legs, hooks pivoted to the bar intermediate its ends, said hooks being positioned in the slots and pins extending transversely through the slots over which the hooks engage to prevent the brace bar from being accidentally removed.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS M. MARSH.
