To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DICK B. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers for the Mutilated Portions of Poultry, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a novel improvement in covers or wrappers for the mutilated portions of poultry, and has particular reference to a device for concealing the mutilated head of dressed poultry.

Accordingly, the invention has in view a simple and inexpensive form of wrapper which may be conveniently utilized both rapidly and eflectually to cover and conceal the mutilated part of the fowl in a thorough and sanitary manner, while at the same time providing a covering which is substantially water-tight and has an adjustable feature.

"With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed. a

A. preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the in-- vention showing the same in open position before being applied to the fowl. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing how the body of the device is wrapped around the neck or other portion of the fowl. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the wrapper completely closed. Fig. 4: is a plan view of the blank used in forming the present covering, with the lines on which the same is folded to provide the pocket or pouch shown in dotted lines.

By reference to the accompanying drawings, it will be apparent that the present invention essentially comprises a wrapper body 1 having at one side thereof a wrapper extension or band 2, while at the lower edge thereof is formed a suitable pocket or pouch 3 which receives the portion of the fowl to be covered and completely conceals and houses the same. This wrapper body is the cover.

formed of any desired material such as stout paper which may be water-proofed to render the wrapping entirely sanitary and afford a greater degree of protection to the mutilated portion of the dressed fowl.

The upper member of the wrapper body 1 above the pocket 3 is made of sufficient dimensions as to afford a convenient attachment to the neck or like portion of the fowl, and, together with the wrapper extension 2, cooperates to form a neat and convenient wrapping in combination with the pouch or pocket 3. For the purpose of facilitating the attachment of the covering or wrapper to the fowl and holding the same in position, the free extremity of the wrapper extension 2 may be provided with a suitable button or equivalent fastening 4 secured thereto by means of a clip 5 and carrying therewith a flexible tie member 6 which may be a piece of string or cord, and which may be used to tightly wrap the body portion of the wrapper and the wrapper extension around the portion of the fowl inclosed by From this construction, it will be apparent that the entire cover device is more or less adjustable to the size of the part of the fowl being wrapped, and therefore may be conveniently utilized to wrap thehead of small or large fowls, to insure sanitation in packing and shipping of the same.

Fig. of the drawings illustrates one form of blank from which the present device may be made, and by reference thereto, it will be observed that the blank essentially includes the substantially rectangular body portion a having at one side thereof the laterally projecting wrapper extension portion 5.

The lower portion of the body a designated as 0 constitutes one wall of the pocket or pouch 3 which receives and incloses a part of the portion of the fowl to be wrapped. This lower portion 0 is preferably folded upwardly along the line (Z toward the upper portion of the body a, and then is folded in the same manner along line a which is dis posed at an angle to the line at to form the plait f, whereby when the entire lower portion 0 is folded upward, the pocket or pouch 3 will present an expansible housing space. After the lower portion is thus folded to provide the pouch, the opposite side edges thereof are folded over toward each other along the lines 9 to form the side seams h as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. These seams are preferably secured to the body of the wrapper by means of suitable fastenings, such as the wire clips 7, the same being preferred to any adhesive in securing the edges of the pocket, not only from a manufacturing standpoint, but also to render the device more sanitary than would be the case if an adhesive were employed.

From the foregoing, it will be apparent that a distinctive feature of the invention is the provision of a covering for the mutilated portions of poultry which not only comprises a pocket or pouch. for receiving the part to be wrapped, but also provides a convenient wrapper body and tie which greatly facilitates the application of the device to the'fowl and renders its position thereon secure during the future handling, transportation and the like.

Without further description, it is thought that the many features and advantages of the present invention will be readily apparent, and it will, of course, be understood, that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted. to without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A wrapper of the class described consisti'ng of a wrapper body having an offset wrapping extension at one edge adjacent a corner thereof and having a pocket forming portion folded back upon the lower part of the wrapper body to a point below the wrapping extension, permanent fastenings for holding said folded pocket forming portion of the body in position to form an expansible pocket, and a temporary fastening carried by the offset wrapping extension.

2. A wrapper ofthe class described comprising a w apper body folded upon itself to form a permanent pocket. said body being extended beyond the open side of the pocket and having a laterally offset wrapping extension, said portion of the body at the open side of the pocket and the wrapping extension being adapted to embrace a portion of the article to be wrapped. and a temporary fastening device carried by the wrapping extension.

3. A cover for the mutilated portions of poultry consisting of a substantially rectangular wrapper body having an offset wrapping extension at one edge adjacent a corner thereof, and having the lower portion thereof folded back upon the wrapper body along intersecting lines, and also having the lateral edges of the lower folded portion thereof folded inwardly, and permanent fastenings for holding said folded portions of the body in position to form an expansible pocket.
