A further objectis to provide a device of the character stated which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price, and which. will supply a great need in the mines and. other places where the leather shoes are injured by the cutting action of stones and the like. x

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be morefully hereinafter-described and pointed out mthe claim.

- On the forward endofthe sole 'portion3' of plate 1, a toe guard 12 is located. This toe guard is preferably provided with slots. 13 to lighten the same and to reduce the metal to a minimum, and this toe guard at its lower edge is provided with inwardly bent lugs 14 secured to the sole portion .3 by rivets 8. To the heel portion of plate 1, I secure a wear plate lfi, and this wear plate conforms in shape to theshape of'the heel, and is secured by rivets 8 which are utilized to se cure the lugs 7. In other words, theijlugs 7 are securely clamped between the heel portion 2 and wear plate 15, and the same rivets. 8 'are utilized for securing parts together.'

To the sole portion 3 of plate 1, I secure spectively. These wear plates on their outer edges conform in shape to the shape of the sole portion '3, andthey are of such shape at their transverse edges that they provide lines of juncture at an angle to each other.

In other words, the-line of juncture between plates 17 and 18 is substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the plate, while the line of juncture between the plates 16 and 17 is at an angle to the longitudinal axis'of the plate.

As the plate will ordinarily bend upon the angles indicated by the'juncture points I and shape of the plates-16, 17, and 18,th'is 100 is a vital important point, as it renders easy the walking action. All of the wear plates 15, 1G, 17, and 18 have depending flanges 19 throughout their edges, and are furthermore strengthened by intermediate flanges 20 10 which may be variously shaped. It will also be noted that in securing the toe guard 12 to the sole portion 3 of plate 1, I utilize the same rivets 8 which secure Wear plate 18. In

other words, the lugs 14 of top guard 12 are 110 a plurality of wear plates 16, l7, and 18 relocated between the sole portion 3, and wear plate 18, and are securely clamped between said parts as well as rigidly secured by the rivets 8.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A shoe protector including a metallic p'la'te conforming to the shape of the sole of a shoe, and a plurality of wear plates secured to said metallic plate, said wear plates having transverse edges located at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the plate and having depending flanges at said transverse edges, and other depending flanges connecting said first flanges, substantially as de scribed.
