IMPROVEMENT lN WOOD PAVEMENTS.
Speeitication forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 120,481, dated October 3l, 1871.
To all whom `it may concern:
e it known that l, VlLLIAM OSCAR BAR- TON, ot' Elizabeth, in the eouuty ot' Union and State ot' New Jersey, have invented eertaiu new and useful Improvements in Keying W'ood or Metal t'or pavements or Floors; and l do herebyv deelare that the tollowing is a lull, ele-ar, and exaet description thereof, referenee being had to the aeeonipanyine' xlrawilng, and to the letters of ret'erenee marked thereon whieh forni a part ot' this speeiiieation.
The nature of my invention Consists in the eonstrnetion and inode of looking' together bloeks for pavements and other purposes, as will be hereinafter more 't'ully set forth.
Vln order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proeeed to describe its eenstruetion and operation, referrin g to the annexed drawing, in whieh- Figure 1 is an end view of two blocks looked or keyed together. For pavements the bloeks A A should be a triile wide` at their lower ends than at the up per, and the key B also slightly tapering, as shown in Fig'. 4, so that the blocks will spread a little at their upper edges and conform to the arehed or enrved upper surt'aee of streets, and also to allow or give horses better foothold.
These spaces may or may not be tilled with concrete or other Composition, as desired.
