Description

[.12. VERKLER. GARMENT HANGER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 29, 1914.
1,204,618. v Patented Nov. 14,1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed m a, 1914. Serial no. 841,688. 7
Be it known that I ENDS G. VnnKmR, a citizen of the United states, and a resident of the city of Chica o, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, ave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers,.of which the following is a speci-' fication.
' My invention relates to garmenthangers and has for its object the roductlon of a garment hanger especially esigned for use in connection with dcollet gowns or those which are low cut at the neck.
A further object is the production of a hanger as mentioned which will be of simple construction and efficient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompapfiying drawing forming a part of this spec' cation, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment hanger embodying'my invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of one end of the hanger, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on line H of Fig. 2.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises an elongated curved or bowed body 1, formed preferably of wood. Projecting upwardly rom thebody 1 midway the ends thereof is a supporting hook 2, the lower end 3 of said supporting hook being clenched at the under side of the body 1 so as to securely lock said hook in position as will be readily understood. The lower end of said hook also pierces the under side of the body 1,
as clearly shown in Fig. 2 in order to prevent relative rotation of the hook.
Arranged at the under side of the body 1 adjacent the extremities thereof are garment supporting hooks 4, the upper or outer ends of said hooks being driven into the body 1 and staples 5 being employed to securely fasten said hooks 1n position. The hooks 4 are especially adapted for use in the support of a skirt, the skirt being suspended therefrom by engagement of the loops usually provided at the inner side of the waist band of the skirt with said hooks.
Arranged at the upper side. of the body gown from the hanger sue 1 are-clamping arms 6 formed of ring w1 re,-th e inner ends of said arms eing drlven nto. the upper side of body 1 at either side of the supporting hook 2. The outer ends of said arms'extend along the upper side of the body 1, the outer enlarged extremities of said arms being adapted normally, by reason of the resili- Patented Nov. 14., 1916.
ency of said arms, to engage against the v upper sidesof the ends of the body 1 as clearly shown in Fi s. 1 and 2. The arms 6 are sprun upwar 1y to releasing osition by means 0 finger pieces or buttons which are slidably mounted in vertically extending openings 8 formed in the body 1, the memhers '7 being threaded to the lower ends of studs 9 which are pivotally connected at their upper ends with cars 10 secured to the arms 6 intermediate the ends of the latter. With this arrangement it will be seen that upward flexing of the arms 6 is readily and easily effected by pressing of the finger pieces 7 upwardly.
In the case of evening or dcollet gowns, where as is'known, shoulder straps are very narrow or spaced widely apart, the outer ends of clamping arms 6 will serve as a means of securely holding the shoulder straps of the gown in position upon the hanger, said shoulder portions being inserted under the outer ends of said arms as will be readily understood. With this arrangement a gown ofthis character will be securely locked to the hanger so as to prevent accidental disenga ement of the as very frequently occurs where a hanger of the conventlonal construction is employed.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efl'ect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to'the precise details of construction set forth, but
.desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim. Having described claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent .is:
I A garment-hanger comprising an elongated body; spring clam ing arms errand at the upper side of sai body'havin their inner ends secured to said body an their my invention what I i arms and depending openings; and end PIGCGS PIOVldGd. upon the lower ends of saidstems and normally projecting below the under surface of said body for manual-engagement;substantially as de- M) scribed.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribln witnesses.
