Be it known that I, CLAUDE E. MrLLroAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Floyd and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Picture-Frames, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved picture frame and the principal object of the invention is to provide a picture frame having an improved construction whereby the back is releasably connected with the forward portion lof the frame and whereby the glass and picture may be securely held in place.

Another object of the invention is to provide a frame which will be practically dustproof and which will protect the picture from exposure to the weather and also prevent it from becoming discolored.

Another object of the invention is to provide a frame which will be simple in construction and which will be easy to assemble and take apart and which will be very securely held in the set-up position while in use. l

This invention is illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the frame in front elevation, Fig. 2 is a view showing the frame in rear elevation with a portion of the frame broken away, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 8-3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. el is a transverse sectional view taken along the line lct of Fig. 1.

he forward section or frame proper 10 is preferably formed of cast metal and is provided with enlargements or lugs 11 having threaded stem-s or bolts 12 extending therefrom to receive the securing nuts 13. These enlargements or lugs 11 are positioned as shown in Fig. 2 .so that they will engage the edges of the glass 11i and hold the glass in the proper position in theV frame. Pins 15 are provided as also shown in Figs. 2 and l to engage the glass and picture 16 and assist the lugs 11 in holding the glass and picture in the proper position. The frame has been stated as being made of cast metal but it is understood that this may be formed of any molded material or may be formed of sheet metal, the lugs 11 and pins 15 being carried by the metal. The backing 17 may be formed of any suitable material such as card board, wood, sheet metal or the like and ,is provided with openings through which the bolts 12 pass, the curing nuts being placed upon the bolts after the backing plate is in place to releasably hold the backing plate in engagement with the frame. ln order to suspend the picture there has been provided a hanger formed of wire twisted to provide the shank 18 and upper and lower eyes 19 and 20. The lower eye 2O is placed pon the upper bolt 12 and the securing nut is then put in place and serves to hold the hanger in position as well as assisting in holding the basic ing plate in place.

`When in use the securing' nuts are removed and the backing plate is then removed from the frame. The picture is then put in place upon the glass after which the backing plate is replaced and the securing nuts screwed upon the bolts. rhe picture will then be securely held in the frame and the frame can be suspended either directly from the hanger by passing a nail through the eye 19 or by connecting a suspending wire with the eye and connecting the suspending wire with a suitable support upon the wall. It will also be noted that if desired the hanger may be done away with or turned down back of the frame and the bolts extending therefrom7 abutment pins extending from the frame, a glass positioned in said frame and engaging said abutment lugs and pins whereby said glass will be held in the proper position, a backing plate placed against said frame and provided with openings through which said `bolts pass, and securing nuts carried by said bolts to hold said backing plate in place.
