CHARLES O. BAXTER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
PICTURE-FRAME.
.Q PE-JJEFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,462, dated October 14, 1884.
Application filed October 15, 1883.
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES O. BAXTER, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented an Improvement in Advertising Picture and Show Card Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The drawing represents a front view of a frame to-which my improvement is applied.
Myinvention relates to those advertising picture and show card frames which are provided with distinguishing marks to indicate the use to which the frames were applied, so that in the event of the removal of such marks the frames may be rendered unsightly and not fit for private use. Such marks have been applied to plates of metal or plaster, being cast integral therewith, said plates being secured to the frames; but these plates can be removed and replaced by others.
This improvement consists in casting these frames with a face of suitable composition. with letters or words and suitable ornamental or fanciful designs integral therewith, said letters or words being descriptive of the picture or show card which the frame is designed to contain, and they would vary, of course, to correspond with the business of the different firms or merchants.
(No model.)
The letters or words and designs are preferably cast in relief, which gives them prominence, so that they better answer the purpose for which they are intended, and cannot therefore be filled up, and thereby concealed.
The designs ornament the frame, and are between the letters or words, so that any attempt to remove the letters or words would destroy the appearance of the designs and disfigure the frames, and thus render them unsightly.
I do not claim, broadly, in this application letters or words cast integral with the substance of the frame, nor the same when cast in relief, nor when they extend into the corners of the frame to prevent a small frame being made of the four corners of a large one, as these features are claimed by me in another application now before the Patent Office, No. 141,517, filed August 23, 1884:; but
\Vhat I do claim in this application, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An advertising picture or show card frame having descriptive letters or words and ornamental or fanciful designs, said letters or words and designs being cast intergral with the substance of its face, substantially as set forth.
CHARLES O. BAXTER.
