POCKET FOLDING I STOOL;
Application filed April 13, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSIAS Josnrn BREAULT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New London, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Folding Stools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pocket folding stools, the principal object of the invention being to provide a stool made up of telescopic and hinged sections that can be folded into a small compass and placed within a case of such size that it can be readily carried in the pocket and opened out whenever desired for use.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation and partial section looking at one side of a stool opened out and in condition for use, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of av stool with the legs folded together and portions broken away to illustrate the interior parts, Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the folded pivotal member, and Fig. is a sectional view of the telescopic sections of one of the legs folded or collapsed.
Referring to the drawing, the four legs of the stool, each comprise the upper tubular section 1 having a slot or recess 2 in the upper end thereof and a pair of curved springs 3 seated in the recess. Mounted to telescope within the tubular section 1 is an intermediate tubular leg section 1, said section 1 having a spring 4: connected thereto,'said spring having a stud 5 proj ecting therefrom to engage a perforation in the section 1 when the two sections are united. The lower section or foot 1 of the leg is also hollow and is provided with a spring stud 6 to engage a perforation in the member 1 At the lower end the foot section 1 is provided with a tapering foot or buffer 7, which is screw threaded Specification of Letters Patent.

at 8 to engage the interior portion of the section 1". Since each of the legs is identical in construction with the others, the description of one will be su'fi icient for all. The canvas seat 9 is connected at its opposite sides to the hinged sections 10 and 11, said sections being hollow or tubular in form and provided with a central hinge 12. Projecting from the opposite ends of the sections 10 and 11 are pins 13 which engage the curved springs 8 in the recesses 2 at the upper ends of the sections 1. A sliding bolt 1% is mounted in the section 11, and is provided with a projecting finger hold 15. The bolt 14: is provided with a spring 16, one end of which bears against the inner end of the pin 18 and the other end of said spring bears against the bolt 1-1 to project the same into the end 17 of the member 10. A slot 18 is formed in the member 11 and a similar slot 19 in the member 10 to permit the finger hold to move in the slot to bolt the two members together.
The pivotal element for the legs is similarly constructed and comprises the two sections 20 and 21, pins 22 at the ends thereof to engage alining apertures in the sections 1 of the legs, and the sections 20 and 21 are connected together by a hinge 23 and the sections are connected by means of a sliding bolt 21- actuated by a spring 25.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that the sections 20 and 21 can be readily removed from the leg sections 1, and that the canvas seat 9 may be folded, thus permittingthe legs to be telescoped or collapsed to the position shown in Fig. 1, and that all the members of the stool can be folded into a small space and confined within a casing or wrapper to be placed within the pocket of a person desiring to carry the stool.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is A pocket folding stool comprising pairs of telescopic legs, pins secured to the legs intermediate the ends and adjacent the upper ends thereof pairs of hollow sections secured to the plns, hinges connecting the abutting ends of the sections together, sliding bolts carried by some of said sections, coil springs urging the sliding bolts and pins Within some of the tubular sections for engaging the bolts into the adjoining sections for holding the legs in alinement and a, seat connected to the sections at the upper ends of the legs.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
