Description
NICHOLAS A. BUHLE; Improvement in Cigar Clamps. M 120; O. Patented Oct. 24,1371.
Fly-z jar/22%;? df/jwzuzw' w @104, z %w% UNITED STATES NICHOLAS A. BUHLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,240, dated October 24, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS A. BUHLE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Clamp and Finger-Ring combined; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing form ing part of this specification, in which drawing Figure 1 represents a sectional front view of this invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional front view of the ring detached from the cigar-clamp.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a finger-ring which is provided with a screw-socket tapped to receive a cigar-clamp or a filling-piece of any suitable nature in such a manner that, when the filling piece is secured in said screw-socket, the ring has the appearance of and can be used as an ordinary finger-ring, and when the filling piece is replaced by a cigar-clamp the cigar can be handled with great convenience.
The ciamp consists of two spring-jaws, which can be compressed by a sliding collar, and which unite in a common shank secured to a ring in such a manner that, by securing a cigar in the clamp and placing his forefinger through the ring, a smoker is enabled to handle his cigar with great convenience, and to smoke it close to its tip without danger of burning his fingers.
In the drawing, A designates a clamp, which consists of two spring-jaws, a a, emanating from a common shaft, b, on which slides a collar, 0, so that by moving this collar out the two jaws can be compressed and caused to take a firm hold of a cigar placedv between them. The lower end of the shank b is secured to a ring, B, so that by placing a finger through said ring the clamp, together with the cigar secured between it, can be conveniently held, and the cigar can be smoked close to its tip. The ring B is made in the form of a fingenring, and it is provided with a screw-socket, d, tapped to receive either the end of the clamp A or a screw projecting from the filling piece 0. If this filling piece is secured in position as shown in Fig. 3, the ring has the appearance of a common fin gerrin g; but by removing said filling piece room is obtained for the insertion of the cigar-clamp, and the two articles are thereby combined in a neat and efficient manner.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The finger-ring B formed with the screwsocket d, in combination with the clamp A formed with the jaws to a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The finger-ring B formed with the screwsocket d, arranged to operate in connection with the filling piece 6 and clamp A, as set forth, when all are constructed substantially as described.
N. A. BUHLE.
