COMBINED 'IWEEZEBS AND FILE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1915.
Application filed March 20, 1914. Serial No. 825,969;
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELLERY L. HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sayre in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Tweezers and Files, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawin This invention relates to I a combined tweezer and file.
The object of my invention is to provide a neat and compact construction comprising very few parts and adapted to be folded so as to be carried in the pocket.
A further object of my invention is to provide a pivot for the file member eliminating the use of a separate pivot pin.
A still further object of my invention is to n'ovide a handle provided with a recess intermediate its ends to permit the opening of the file.
With these and other objects in View the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described. I
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of the device with the file member in its closed position. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line m-a2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. l with the file member shown in its open position. Figs. 4 and 5 are front elevations showing the file member in its closed and open positions respectively.
The numeral 1 designates the handle composed of a single piece of metal folded throughout its length to provide spaced sides 2, the sides 2 being spaced apart and con nected with each other by a top connecting portion 3. At one end the sides of the handle 1 are provided with stamped in trunnions 4: and 5, the said trunnions adapted to be seated in an aperture 3 passing through the lile member 4 to form a supporting pivot for the said file 4 making it unnecessary to use a separate pin.
Intermediate the ends of the handle is an are shaped opening 7 extending through the top connecting portion of the handle and substantially half way through both the sides of the handle, so that when the file 4k is to be used it is only necessary to insert the finger in the are shaped opening 7 which will press the free end of the file out of the handle so that the same may be grasped by the hand to open the said file. It will be noted that when the file 4! is opened the top From the foregoing description it will be apparent that l have devised. an inexpensive article in which the file may be easily opened. and also provided a very meritorious form of tweezers construction without altering the stability of the handle. it will also be noted that my form of pivot for the file is very simple and contains a number of advantages as it does away with the necessity of using separate pivot pins.
What I claim is:
In an article of the character described, a body part adapted to befolded upon itself in a substantially e -shaped cross section, with the sides separated at one end and outwardly bowed. so as to construct tweezers, and the sides at the opposite end having in wardly strucleup parts to constitute a bear: ing, and an extension part normally housed within the body part and adapted to swing on said bearing.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELLERY L. HAll/[h IOND.
