SMOKING-PIPE.
Application filed July 21, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS HENRY MANN, of Spreydon, in the Dominion 013' New Zealand, gentleman, do hereby declare the nature of this invention, to be an Improved Smoking-Pipe, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement.
This invention relates to smoking-pipes, its object being to provide the mouth-piece with a trap which will serve to prevent any liquid that may accumulate therein, from being drawn into the mouth with the smoke. In carrying this object into efi'ect the construction consists in forming a downward bend in the extremity of the mouth-piece while the smoke is conveyedto the mouth by means of a straight passage formed parallel with the bore of the mouthpiece or approximately so above such bend. The said bent portion is hollowed out so that it may contain a suitable quantity of liquid while its extremity is closed by means of a suitable cap or plug adapted to be removed when required for the purpose of emptying or cleaning the said cavity.
In order that the nature of the invention and its construction may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying sheet of drawings in which Figure 1. is an elevation of a pipe fitted with a mouth-piece constructed in accordance with the invention and, Fig. 2- is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the mouth-piece.
1 is the mouth-piece which may be either straight or curved and attached to the pipe 2 by means of the ordinary push-joint, screw, or other customary and well-known means.
According to the present invention the Oopies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10, 1916.
Serial No. 41,129.
outer extremity of the mouth-piece l is formed with a downward bend 3 which is made hollow so as to provide a cavity 1 adapted to receive and contain any liquid that may accumulate in the pipe-stem, while to convey the smoke to the mouth, a passage 5 is formed through the end of the mouth-piece above the said bent portion so as to constitute a continuation of the bore 6 of suchmouth-piece. The extremity of the said bent portion is closed by means of a removable cap or plug 7 so as to permit of the cavity 4 being emptied and cleansed as required. By this construction it'will be seen that the smoke will be drawn through the bore 6 and passage 5 into the mouth in the ordinary manner while any liquid that may accumulate in such bore will be trapped by the cavity 4: and so prevented from entering the mouth.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in What manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A pipe mouth-piece having a downward bend formed at its extremity, a cavity formed in said bent portion and adapted to receive any liquid that may accumulate in the bore of said stem, a removable closure upon the extremity of said bent portion, and a passage formed through the extrem ityof said stem above said cavity and constituting an extension of said bore for the purpose of conveying the smoke to the mouth.
