Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
'Be' it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand- Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fastening devicesv for pull pieces, handle caps and the like, particularly designed for hand bags, satchels, grips and similar devices, and has for its object, the production of a neat, practical and eflicient device, which is extremely durable, and is not liable to breakage when unduly strained or used continually; and to this end, it consists in the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts, all as hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out in the claims.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a bag frame having a fastening device constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of a portion of a bag frame section, illustrating the apertures therein to receive the fastening lugs of the improved fastening device. Fig. 3 represents an edge elevation of a portion of a bag frame section, with the fastening device secured thereto. Fig. 4 represents a transverse section of the fastening device. Fig. 5 represents the blank employed to produce the fastening device; and Figs. 6 and 7 represent side and edge elevations of the device secured to a portion of a frame member.
It is well known that the pull pieces of hand bags, satchels and the like frequently become separated from the fastening devices to which they are secured, and especially when the pull piece or fastening device is subjected to great strain or when continually used. My invention is of such peculiar construction and arrangement as to permit the said fastening device to be subjected to great and unusual strain, and to undue wear without liability of breakage or of permitting the pull piece, handle cap or the like, which may be secured thereto, from becoming accidentally disengaged; and further, is of such simple and practical construction, it being formed from a single piece of suitable material, that-it lends itself readily to manuflacture by the use of suitable punches and ies.
A fastening device made in accordance with my invention may be applied to any ordinary or desired form of frame. That shown in the drawings, consists of two hinged frame members pivotally connected at a. Nearthe middle portion of the frame member Z), I secure the fastening means 0, which may be of any desired form or configuration, and in any desired manner, designed to receive a pull piece. The fastenlng device 0 is formed from a single piece of sultable material, as illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawings, and comprises a body portion 0?, secured to the bag frame by means of a pair of integral tongues e inserted through apertures j in the bag frame member 6 and clenched over in any suitable and convenient manner. Extending from and integral with the body portion 03, is a loop or similar securing means in the form of a tubular bearing 7, which is provided with an extension 9, designed to be received into a struck-up portion it formed in the face of the body portion 0?. The extension 9 is also provided with an integral tongue 2', adapted to be inserted through one of the apertures j in the frame member 6, and also clenched over in the same manner as the integral tongues c, for additionally securing the fastening device 0 to the frame section.
The securing means, which are in the nature of a tubular bearing 7, is designed to receive a pull piece k, as for instance, a ring, loop or the like, which is pivotally secured in the tubular bearing f of the fastening dev1ce c.
InFigs. 6 and 7 of the drawings, I have shown the fastening device secured to the top of a channel-frame section, in which case the fastening device can be utilized to receive a handle or strap attachment of any form.
Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly eli icient one, and While the device shown is the preferred embodiment-of my present invention, I do not Wish to be limited to the exact details of construction of the Various parts thereof.
I claim:
1. A fastening device for a frame having hinged frame sections, said device comprising a body portion provided With a struckup portion formed in the face thereof and further provided with integral securing means for securing it to one of said frame sections, and having an integral loop or similar securing means extending from said body portion, said securing means provided With an extension folded back upon said body portion and designed to be received into the struck-up portion of said body portion, said extension being further provided With integral securing means for further securing said device to the said frame section.
2. A fastening device for a frame having hinged frame sections, said device comprising a body portion provided With a struckup portion formed in the face thereof adapted to be secured to one of said frame sections, and having an integral tubular bearing extending from said body portion, said tubular bearing provided With an extension folded back upon said body portion and adapted to be received into the struck-up portion of the said body portion.
3. A fastening device for a frame having hinged frame sections, said device formed from a single piece of suitable material, and comprising a body portion, the upper end of Which is provided With a struck-up porti'on formed in the face thereof, and further provided at said end With integral securing means for securing it to one of said frame sections, and an integral tubular bearing extending from said body portion, said integral tubular bearing being provided With a reduced extension, said extension being designed to be folded back upon said body portion and to be received into the struck-up portion of said body portion, said extension being further provided With integral securingmeans for further securing said device to the said frame section.
