"man srarns F KARL SCHERFF, OF MADISON, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ELI I-IOIHJELLE, OF MADISON, MINNESOTA.
WINDOW-HOLDER.
Application filed January 8, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL Sorrnnrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Lao qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- I-Iolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to window holders or looks and the primary object of the invention is to provide a burglar proof lock for windows, which will effectively prevent the jimmying open of the window.
Another object of this invention is to provide a window holder or look which includes, a telescoping member having locking bolts upon each end of the same which are adapted for seating in sockets carried by the window casing, and detachably connected there to, and further to connect shoes to the telescoping member which extends over the midrail of the lower sash of the window for preventing the raising of the lower sash.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the improved window holder and lock showing the same applied to a window. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view through a window showing the improved lock applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the window lock or holder. Fig. 4 is a sectional view through one end of the holder. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the casing carried keeper, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the shoe which is attached to the holder for engagement with the upper surface of the upper or mid-rail of the lower sash of a window construction.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates a window casing of any ordinary construction which has vertical side rails 2 and 8 and upper and lower slidable Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 70,993.
sashes 5 and 4 included therein. The vertical side rails 2 and 3 have keepers 6 attached thereto, by screws or analogous fastening means which extend through openings 7 formed in the laterally extending flanges 8 which are formed on the body of the keepers 6. The bodies of the keepers 6 are provided with rectangularly shaped openings 9 extending inwardly from their outer ends, and with circular openings 10 extending therethrough transversely to the rectangular openings 9. The rectangular openings 9 are adapted for receiving the rectangular extensions 11 and 1 2.
The rectangular extension 12 is formed rlgidly upon one end of the relatively large tubular section 14, and the rectangular section 12 is formed upon the end of a relatively small tubular section or rod 15 which is telescopically mounted within the tube 14. The rod 15 has an enlarged flange-16 formed upon its inner end and positioned interiorly of the tube 14, which limits the outward extensible movement of the rod 15. A cap 17 is mounted upon the end of the tube 14 and permits the insertion of the head 16 into the tube portions, and prevents a withdrawal of the rod 15 completely from the interior of the tube 14.
The relative large tube 14 has shoes indicated at 20 attached thereto, which shoes include flat body portions 21 and curved portions 22 which curve upwardly from one end of the flat body 21, and extend about the tubular section 14, being secured thereto in any suitable manner.
In the operation of the improved window holder or look, when the lower window sash 4 is lowered, and it is desired to hold the same in a closed position, the rectangular extension 11 is inserted in the rectangular opening 9 formed in one of the keepers 6 and a pin not shown is inserted through the opening 10 and through an opening 11 which is formed in the extension 11, which holds the extension 11 and keeper 6 connected for preventing accidental disconnection thereof. The rod 15 is then moved outwardly, until the extension 12 is seated in the rectangular opening 9 formed in the keeper 6 on the opposite side of the window, and a pin is inserted through the opening 12 formed in the extension 12, and through the opening 10 formed in the keeper in which the end of the extension 12 is seated.
nected.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is V entitled provided such alterations are comprehended Within the scope of What is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In a Window lock structure, the combination With a Window structure including a casing, and a slidable sash carried by said casing, of a pair of keepers attached to said casing, a lock structure comprising a pair of telescopic members, an extension formed upon the outer ends of said lock structure for insertion in said keepers, and shoes connected to said telescopic structure for engagement With the upper surface of the mid-rail of said slidable sash for holding the sash against movement.
2. In a Window lock structure, the combination With a WilldOW structure including a frame, and a slidable sash positioned in said frame, of a pair of keepers carried by said frame at opposite sides of the same, a lock structure comprising a relatively large tube,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for an extension formed upon one end of said tube and extending longitudinally therefrom, a rod telescopically mounted in the opposite end of said tube, an extension formed upon said rod, said extension adapted for seating in said keeper, and shoes attached to said relatively large tube and tube, an extension formed upon one end of said tube and extending longitudinally therefrom, a rod telescopically mounted in the opposite end of said tube, an extension formed upon said rod, said extension adapted for seating in said keeper, and shoes attached to said relatively large tube and adapted for engagement with the upper surface of the mid or upper rail of said Window sash for holding the Window sash against movement, said keepers and said extension being provided with openings, and pins inserted through said openings for connecting said extensions and keepers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
