GEORGE RUSTON, OF FBEEPORT, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-SEIU. FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,292, dated July 29, 1873 application filed May l0, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE RUsToN, of Freeport, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Wagon-Seat Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved fastener, as applied to the side ofthe seat and locked to the body of the wagon 5 and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on the line e'c, Fig. 2, dotted lines indicating its position when separating the seat from the wagon.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a fastener or latch, which is applied to both sides of a wagon-seat, to connect the same rinly to the body of the wagon, so that the displacing or detaching of the seat is prevented, and a secure seat. obtained. My invention consists 0f a hinge-fastener combined with a latch applied to the sides ofthe wagonseat, the hinge-fastener with bent end closing over the guide-strip of the wagon-body in connection with a pin locking into a hole of the saine.
In the drawing, A represents the side ofthe body of theY wagon; B, the guide-strip running near the upper edge of the same; and C, the side support of the seat, grooved to t over the side A. The latch D is applied with screws, or otherwise, to the inside of the side support C, having hinged at the lower edge the fastener E, ot' suf'cient length to lock over guide-strip B. Its lower end a is, for this purpose, bent toward the wagon side A, and closes over the lower side of the strip B. A pin or lug, b, applied at thelower side of seatsupport C, locks into a hole or recess, b, of guide-strip, at the place where the seat is required. B till the lugs b engage in holes b', and bringin gvhinge-iasteners O down-over strips B,-and locking them rmly by bolts d of latches D', a rigid attaching of the wagon-seat is obtained.
By providing different holes at equal intervals, the seat may be adjusted to any desired position on the wagon. To disconnect the seat, the bolts are withdrawn, and the hinges and lugs separat-ed from the guide-strips.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the side A, the side support grooved t0 t over it, and the guidestrip B, ofthe latch D, hinge-fastener E, and bolt d, as and for the purpose described.
. GEORGE RUSTON.
