T. 5 HRDLEY A @NTTED STATEg PATENT @FFTQE.
FRANK SHADLEY, 0F HEBBON, INDIANA.
STOVE-BLOWER.
Application filed July 31, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, FRANK Si-IADLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hebron, in the county of Porter and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a fan blower attachment for cook stoves, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which can be readily mounted upon an ordinary cook stove and embodies novel features of construction whereby a forced draft can be conveniently obtained at any time when such may be found desirable.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a fan blower attachment of this character which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be easily operated, which can be moved .into an out of the way position when not in use, and which provides a simple and effective means for obtaining a. forced draft at any time.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combina tions and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cook stove, showing the stove blower applied thereto, the said blower being shown in inoperative position by solid lines, and in opative position by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view through the stove blower, showing the manner of attaching the air pipe to the stove. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View through the stove blower, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, portions being broken away.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the present embod iment of the invention, the numeral 1 designates an ordinary cook stove which is of the conventional construction, having a fire box 2 at one end thereof and communicating at its opposite end with the stove pipe 3.
The blower includes a cylindrical casing Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 42,999.
1 which is horizontally disposed and communicates at the bottom thereof with an air chamber 5, said air chamber being tapered toward the bottom thereof, where it is connected to a downwardly extending air pipe 6. Extending axially through the cylindrical casing a is a fan shaft 7, one end of which projects into a gear casing 8 arranged at the end of the fan casing 4. A. pinion 9 1s keyed upon or otherwise rigidly applied to the end of the fan shaft 7 and meshes with a large gear wheel 10 mounted within.
the gear casing 8 and keyed upon a short shaft 11, This shaft 11 extends beyond the gear casmg 8 and is provided with a crank handle 12 which is used for the operation of the blower. In the present instance the crank case 8 is shown as mounted eccentrically with respect to the fan casing 4 and as projecting downwardly below the same.
The end of the fan casing 4L opposite to that upon which the gear casing 8 is mounted is provided with a centrally disposed air inlet opening 13. The fan blades are formed of a pair of sheet metal plates 1d of a suit able size to rotate within the fan casing 4, said plates being applied to the fan shaft 7 from opposite sides thereof and connected by means of bolts 15 which clamp the plates rigidly in position upon the fan shaft. With this construction it will be obvious that the fan blades can be rapidly rotated by turning the crank handle 12, and that this rotation of the fan blades will result in forcing a current of air through the downwardly extending air pipe 6. The lower end of the air pipe 6 is provided with an elbow 16 and a coupling 17 adapted to detachably engage a short pipe 18 embedded in the front of the fire box at an elevation slightly above that of the grate. When the coupling 17 is in engagement with the short pipe 18 and the fan operated, a forced draft will be produced in the cook stove.
The blower mechanism is mounted upon a swinging bracket 19 which may be conveniently formed of strap iron, one end thereof being rigidly secured to the air chamber 5, while the opposite end thereof may be suitably connected at 20 to the top of the stove 1 at a point toward the front thereof. Such a construction admits of the blower being swung back into an out of the way position when it is not in use. When it is desired to produce a forced draft within the stove, the blower mechanism is swung forwardly into operative position and the coupling member 17 brought into engagement with the air pipe 18. A rotation of the handle 12 will then produce the desired result.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A stove blower, including a fan casing, a rotary fan mounted within the fan casing, gearing upon the casing for driving the fan, an air pipe projecting downwardly from the fan casing, a coupling member at the end of the air pipe, a bracket mounted to swing in a horizontal plane and having the fan casing mounted upon the swinging end thereof, and a fixed pipe adapted to be engaged by the before mentioned coupling member at the end of the air pipe when the casing is swung into operative position, the casing being adapted to be swung into an out of the way position when not in use.
2. A blower, including a cylindrical fan casing having an air inlet opening in one end thereof, a gear casing applied to the opposite end thereof, a fan shaft extending through the fan casing and projecting into the gear casing, a pinion applied to the fan shaft, a gear wheel mounted within the gear casing and meshing with the pinion, a crank shaft for turning the gear wheel, fan olades upon the fan shaft, an air chamber at the bottom of the fan casing, an air pipe projecting downwardly from the air chamber, a coupling member at the end of the air pipe, a fixed pipe adapted to be detachably engaged by the coupling member of the air pipe when the fan is in operative position, and a supporting bracket mounted to swing in a horizontal plane and having the fan casing mounted upon the swinging end thereof so 40 FRANK SHADLEY.
