To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that i, GEORGE FARRUN, e. citizen of the United States, residing at De- -ti'oit Michigun lhwe invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binder Devices, of which the following is o. specification.
This invention relates to in'iprovements in binder devices. A
The mam ob ects of this invention ore-t First; to provide .hn improved binder device which facilitates the use of temporary liinciers or loose sheet holders, particularly when they are used for record, or accounting purposes. Second, A to provide an iniprc ecl binder device which facilitates the huncihng and manipulation of sheets of temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and -li1Lz1l1S rlescrilmi in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointeel out in the cluin'is.
A structure which is preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming at v )art of this s )ecificutiou in which:
Figure l is a. plan view of my improved binder device with u temporary binder (lisposed therein illustwltingthe manner of use.
Fig. 11 is u vertical longitiulinul section on ncters refer to :1 line corresponding to line 22 of Fig. I. Fig. HZ o perspective wiew with the Fig. IV is it vertical longitudinal section corresponding to that of Fig 11, showing a slightly moth-- fiecl form of my invention.
In the drawings, similar reference chursiinilur parts throughout the several views, and the section-.11 views are taken looking in the direction of the little url'outs zit the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawings, 1 have shown in Figs. 1 and H an embodiment of my invention pzwtieulurly designed for the type of binder shown in U. S. Letters Patent No. 8785410, dated Feb. 4-, 1908, to Harry F. Bushong, and which comprises at pair of chambered. covers 1 ucljustiihl'y connect means of binding strips the sheets or lea "es 3. Iihe mi Scent of the binding strip ffi lliili by W mechanism in one coxer mnl u ratchet mechanism 5 in the other.
The covers are preferably pnm'ideti with pivoted clumping or binding; members 6 through which the binr' 5;; strips are disposed. As the details of the mechanism of the binder proper form no part of this \kllliOIl and as suitable mechanisms are T1 i do not describe the some with fun to chrup to." bind.
known ther detail herein my invention :1 Sigilfil to fucilitute the use of such and other hinders now in counuoir u l mount 11 pair of holders, o:. ;m-.i t erolly by the numerals i 41ml 8, of supporting buso n'lomhers 9.
The holsle comprises 0. side ,0. and. on end member 11. While comprises :1 side u'iomhor 1:2 out n'iolnbor- 13. Those inihiers are iiispo: with their end member, 1]. and 12-5 in an t positely inc..' MLl relation and with their 1 per edges meeting. The cinl nien'ibers time slots 1/ in mitigated the biui119; strip 2 of u bin-:ler sronged in the holders with one cover in each holler ou the sheets 3 abutting the end nicn'ibors. Th sheets have notches 15 therein adapted to receive the binding strips, the note ies being;
conveniently guged with or (:lisengnged from. the lJiIlt .g strips. The sheets shown ire presided with index tubs The end. n'ienaber i1 is disposed at on acute angle to the side member 10 so that the sheets 3 are supported with their upper ods in an inclined relation therein, facilitating the lingering oi the sheets.
The end .3 is disposed subs untiully at right angles to the sitle member 12 so as to facilitate the uliuingg of the -emls of the sheets arranged thereon.
The holder Sis pref nibly plifi'iilfll with. uprights l7 mountel upon the base to project upwardly at the ends of the side mom-- her 12. Thetsi members are pz'eterahiy supported for adjustment. The adjustment in the structure illustrated is effected by the supporting arms 18 which have longitudinal slots 19 therein bolts 20. v
In use the binder is arranged with one cover in each holder, the sheets in'the first engaging the clamping instance being all arranged in the holder 7, TWhen entries are to be made the sheeth are all sheets upon which entries have been made, by ofi'setting them in the holder 8,
' as shown in, Fig. I. To assist in alining the sheets in their offset or assorted relation. the end member 13 in the holder'8 is provided with a guiding rib 21 adapted to engage the notches'15, see Fig. I. The sheets have centrally disposed notches 15 which 'are adapted to register yvith the binding strips when the sheets are ofl'set. By thusarranging the sheets they are assorted so that sheets on which entries have been made or which. it is desired to otherwise distinguish are all identified.
In the modification shown in Fig. IV I show another form of binder consisting of covers 22 having binding members 23. The removable posts or other leaf engaging members are not shown as post binders are well known in the art. In this modification I provide a removable receiving box 25 which is adapted to be arranged in the holder 8 and'may be removed therefrom so that the sheets may be carried to the typewriting machine or carried: about for any desired purpose.
My improved'binder device greatly facili ;tates the use of'temporary binders in the keeping of records, particularly where it is desired to keep the records on typewriting machines. The sheets are supported so that they are all readily accessible. and the Wear and tear on the sheets in handling is minimized.
I have illustratedand described my improvements in a simple and practical embodiment. I have not attempted to illustrate the various modifications which, mightbe desirabiefto adapt my invention to particular binders as I believe the disclosure made will enable such adaptation by those skilled in the art' to which this invention relates. I desire, however, to be understood as claiming my improvements specifically in the form illustrated'as well as broadly within the scope of the appended claims. In my application, Ser. No 36,128, filed June 24,.
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Leta tween said side members to coact therewith,
said end members being vertically slotted, I
the slots being adapted to receive the bind ing strips of binders arranged with a binder member in each holder, slotted supporting arms for said side members, and clamping" screws on said basemembers engaging said slotted side member supporting arms whereby said side members are supported for adjustment transversely of their coacting end members. 2. In a support for temporary binders, the combination of a pair of holders each comprising a side and an end member disposed with their end members in an oppositely inclined relation and with the upper edges of the end members meeting, said end members having registering slots-therein.
3. In a support for temporary hinders, the combination of a pair of holders each comprising a side and an end. member disposed with their end members adjacent, said end members having openings therein adap ted to receive the binding strips of a binder arranged. in the support with one bind-er member in each holder. I
4:. In a support for temporary binders,'
the combination of a pair of holders each COIQIH'lSlIIg a side and an end member dis posed oppositely with their end members adjacent, said end members having openings therein adapted to receive the binding strips of a binder arranged in the support with one binder memberin each holder, said side members being adjustable relative to said and members.
5. In a support for temporary hinders, the combination of a pair of holders each comprising side and end members disposed oppositely with their end members adjacent and outwardly inclined, one of said side members being adjustable relative to its end member. M
6. In a support for loose sheet binders comprising a pair-of separably associated binder members, the combination of a pair of holders each adapted to receive one of said bindermembers and each. comprising sideand end unembers disposed oppositely with their end members adjacent so that binder members may be disposed in said holders and sheets arranged thereon with their inner ends against the holder end mem bars, the and member of one holder being *disposed at an acute angle to its side member so that the sheets arranged thereon --avith their ends abutting the end member fsupported in'a stepped reiation'to facilitate my hand and seal in the? gresence 0f "6W0 fingerirg, 3113 end membsz' 0f the1 other wiinesseholder ein is osed at a ri ht an em its 1 rv Side membe? to acilitaie the alining6f the GEGJRUE FARROE'T 1 Saheets :irranged thereon for adjustment of I Vi *itnesses: j r the binder thereto."
