which the following is a Specification.

It will be understood that I do not wish to limit my invention to the use of the particular device here shown except to the extent indicated in the appended. claims.
The use and operation of, my invention are as follows: Assuming a structure shaped as here shown, it is evident that when for any reason the turbine wheel begins to rotate rapidly the governor Weights will be rocked on their pivots, the toe of the governor levers will force the sleeve G toward the right against the action of the spring G and this will move the ring F toward the right and rock the lever F .on its pivot. This in turn will rock the lever having the ,arms F and F and force the valve stem In the meanupwardly to seat the valve. time the parts are all held in general operative position'by the spring C If new thevalve fails to work, if, for example, it has been so worn that the steam continues to pass through the valve after the governor has performed its entire function, or if there be an obstruction between the valve and the seat so that the governor can not completely seat the valve and cut ofi the steam, then if the load be cut ofi the wheel, will continue to rotate under such restricted supply of steam until the operation becomes dangerous or destructive. With'the 10 arrangement here shown, however, as soon as the governor weights have operated to move the sleeve G as far to the right as possible, if the speed increases or continues, the point J ceases to be the fulcrum of the governor weight, the point J 3 becomes such fulcrum andthe wheel is forced to the left into the position indicated in Fig. 2 where the buckets are out of register with the nozzles/and the steam has been cut off from the buckets. The wheel therefore must tend to stop and the operator will speedily observe that something is the matter and will inthe speed of the wheel, a valvecontrolled by said governor to control the supply of steam, means responsive to, the operation of the governor for moving .said'wheel out of the normal relation with the'nozzle.
3. The combination with a turbine wheel and steam supply nozzle of a valve for controlling the supply of' steam to the nozzle, a-
governor operated by the wheel for controlling said valve, and means responsive to the operation of thegovernor and operative after the manipulation of the valve by the governor for displacing the wheel out of register with the nozzle.
4. The combination with a turbine wheel and steam supply nozzle of a valve controlling it, a governor actuated by the wheel to control the valve, and a connection between the governor and the wheel to laterally displacethe wheel in response to excess rotational speeds. thereof to throw the wheel out of line with the nozzle.
5. The combination with a turbine wheel and steam supply nozzle of a valve for controlling the supply of steam to the nozzle, a governor operated by the wheel for controlling said valve, and means responsive to the operation of the governor and operative after the manipulation of the valve by the governor for displacing the wheel out of register with the nozzle, and yielding means for normally holding the wheelin line with the nozzle.
6. The combination with a turbine wheel and steam supply nozzle of a valve controlling it, a governor actuated by the wheel to control the valve, and a connection between the governor and the wheel-to laterally displace the wheel in response to excess rotational speeds thereof to throw the wheel out of line/with the nozzle, and yielding means for normally holding the wheel in line with the nozzle.
7. The combination with a turbine Wheel and steam supply nozzle of a valve for controlling the supply of steam to the nozzle, a.
governor operated by the wheel for controlling said valve, and means responsive to the operation of the governor for displac'- ing the wheel out of register with the nozzle.
