Be it known that I, JOHN F.'OCONNOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Keyless Yokes, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ofthis specification. I This invention relates to improvements in keyle'ss yokes.
An object of the invention is to provide a yoke for draft riggings which may be attachedto a"-draw bar without the aid of keys, rivets or bolts, and so arranged that when in operative position the parts composing the yoke are self lockedto prevent relative longitudinal or lateral movement.
Another object of the invention is to provide a keyless yoke consisting of two parts, whichare united and self locked when in operative position by means of separable hinge connections.
The invention furthermore consists in improvements in the. parts and devices and novel combinations of the parts and devices, as herein shown, described or claimed.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a yoke embodying my improvements, the yoke, as shown, being of the tandem variety, although as will be understood by those skilled in the art, the invention is not limited to this type of yoke. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of, the structure illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front end elevational view of the improved yoke, showing the same del tached from the draw bar. Fig. 4- is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 4.4= of Fig. 3, and Fig.5 is a detail horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3 of one of the parts comprising the yoke.
In said drawing, 10 denotes the draw bar,
which is of standard form and provided with upper and lower front shoulders 1111 and rear back wall 12. The yoke is designated generally by the reference A and, as shown, comprises two like members B B, so arranged that the yoke is split along the center thereof. The front-ends of if 13are united by a side wall or plate 16 so that when the two parts B B are assembled a box-like hood or head is provided, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, for the reception of the butt of the draw bar. At their eX- treme forward ends, each arm 13 is provided with ashoulder 17 which is adapted to engage a portion of a shoulder 11 on the draw bar and an inwardly extending projection 18 having a boss 19 extending therefrom, the Y tween the shoulders 11 and rear face l2 of the draw bar butt. As clearly shown in Fig. 5, the inner faces of the shoulders 17 and 23 are beveled, as indicated at 21-2-1, to facilitate the positioning of the yoke on the draw bar. The device is assembled as follows :The two members B B first have their front ends brought together forward of the shoulders 11 on the draw bar, the bosses 19 of one member B being inserted in the corresponding grooves 22 of the other member B.
After this is done, the two members B B are brought together to the position shownin Fig; 2, whereupon the bosses 19' of each member B slide forwardly in the'corresponding grooves 22 of the other member until the bosses 19 assume the position shown in dot ted lines in Fig. 2. During this movement,

Tendency of the members B B'to separate laterally is also prevented, inasmuch as each boss 19 is confined between the boss of-the opposite member 'B and the corresponding curved wall 27 thereof. Vertical separation of the parts B B is of course prevented by the draw bar, since each member B has upper and lower horizontal flanges overlapping the upper and lower faces of the draw bar butt.
From the preceding description it will be seen that I have provided a keyless yoke of inexpensive form and one which is particularly adapted for use on those draw bars which are not, provided with slots for keys and in whichit is not desirable to use rivets or bolts.
I claim 1. A yoke of the character described comprising two like members having cooperating, interengaging, integral bosses and grooves arranged to prevent either relative lateral or longitudinal movement when the parts are. operatively assembled.
2. A yoke of the character described comprising two like castings each having a pocket to receive cushioning means and provided with cooperating, interengaging, integral bosses and grooves, said bosses and grooves detachably connecting said castings and preventing relative longitudinal or lateral movement when the parts are assembled.
A yoke of the character described comprising two loop members each having-co-. operating, interengaging bosses and grooves on the tops and bottoms thereof at the forward ends, said bosses and grooves preventing relative longitudinal or lateral movement of the parts when the-same are operatively assembled.
