Application filed ma 24, 1915; 7, Serial No. 30,640.
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. ROTH- ai man, a citizen of th'Unit'ed States, re
siding at Seattle, in the county of Kingand State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Partition- Supports, of whichthe following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to supports for partitions which are employed to divide bins,
drawers, etc., into compartments; and its object is the provision of devices of this character which will be of simple and inexpensive construction and adapted to be conveniently applied with practically little loss of space.
The invention consists in the novel construction and adaptation of a metallic strip which is rolled or bent into channel shape and provided'with a novel form of securing devices.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a drawer divided by partitions which are secured by supports embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section through 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4' is a perspective view of a channel bar which provides partition supports by cutting the same into suitable lengths.
In carrying out my invention, I form the partition supports from a strip of tin plate or other suitable material, which is rolled or bent into a channel shaped bar to provide a web member 5'with series of flange are arranged in spaced pairs and affording portions of the web member therebetween which are unprovided with flange elements. The web is punched from the channel side and intermediate the adjacent pairs of flanges with a plurality of holes .7 and between the latter are desirably punched other holes 8. By punching said holes from within the channel sides of the bar, the material thus struck out furnishes bars or annular studs 7 and 8 for the purpose'to be presently described.
I will explain the use of the supports with reference to a drawer having a front wall 9, side walls 10 and a bottom 11. To divide the drawer longitudinally, a transverse partition 12 is out to a length equal to the distance between the side walls 10 of the drawer less the thicknesses of the web members 5 of two supports. The stock Fig. 4) is then cut ofl, as indicated in broken lines wa1 of a length from the outermost ends, as 6 of the first pair of flange elements, to the ends, as 6 remote therefrom, ofthe pair of flange elements which will be within a length equal to or less than the inside depth of the drawer.
' The support thus cut from the channel bar will have its web member terminate at or near the ends of a pair. of flange elements,
.while the other end of such member will partition 12 introduced and forced down be tween the flange elements of the respective supports, thereby causing the studs 7 and 8 of the upright portions of the supports to be thrust into the side walls 10 of the drawer. Longitudinal partitions 13 and 14 may, in like manner, be engaged in supports secured to the drawer ends and transverse partitions. Ordinarily, the penetration of the studs into the side walls will suffice to secure the supports and the associated partition against displacement. To render the supports, however, able to withstand any liability of working loose should the partitions shrink, as when green wood is used, I insert supplementary fastening devices such as brads 15 through the holes of the lips 5 into the subjacent drawer side or partition, as the case may be.
Among the advantages of the invention is the facility with which the supports may be cut-to lengths and introduced and se- I cured in predetermined positions, and when lip adapted to he t1 1rned to engage 'struck-out portions formedin theweb meme be? and being rearwardly directed relative t0 -the flange elemeiits and lecatedeafi :pclfits ti e; a: 151; paigit lfia'y text-tamed ioaiyqms {ea 35.51 f aprimels.
