JOSEPH J. ENGLER T, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CORRUGATED FASTENER.
messes.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 19115..
Application filed May 6, 1914. Serial No. 836,609.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JosEPH J. ENGLERT, a citizen .of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corrugated Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to fasteners of the corrugated type designed to be driven into the abutting ends of wood or similar materials for the purpose of securing the same together.
'It has for its object the construction of such a device which will embody a number of sharpened points in combination with a "series of cutting edges which insure the direction of the fastener in the wood, and preserve the fiber of the wood while being driven into the same.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is an enlarged elevation of a portion of a fastener. constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof; Fig. 3 is a complete elevation of a fastener; and Fig. 4: is an end elevation thereof.
Reference being had more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates generally a fastener constructed in accordance with the present invention, having a plurality of convolutions or corrugations 10 and 10 The corrugations l0 are on one side of a vertical plane extending centrally through the fastener, while the corrugations l0 are upon the opposite side thereof, said corrugations 10 and 10 alternating throughout the entire length of the fastener 10.
The upper edge of the fastener is sharpened, the corrugation 10 being beveled or the corrugations 10 and 10 respectivelythe concaved portions of each corrugation are beveled or cut as at 14 to form a continuous cutting edge on both sides of the fastener. This formation or construction is clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
I claim as my invention:
A fastener comprising a strip of metal continuously bent and rebent to form corrugations extending alternately on each side of the central plane of the fastener, one edge of said fastener being beveled on each side thereof, thereby forming a series or succession of teeth and each corrugation being beveled on both the convex and the concave side adjacent the bottom of each tooth.
Intestimony whereof I have'hereunto affixed my name in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOSEPH J. ENGLERT. Witnesses:
CARL FISCHER, OSCAR WINTER.
