To all whom it may concern:

Be-it known that I, EARL C. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Batavia, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to toys, the principal object being to provide a toy of simple construction which will be amusing and entertaining in operation.

The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation and partial section of a toy made in accordance with this invention, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a base or support mounted on cross bars 2. Rigidly mounted on the base 1 is a bench comprising a platform 3 supported upon legs 1. A miniature wash-tub 5 is pivotally connected to the platform 3 by means of a centrally disposed bolt or pin 6. Rigidly connected to the tub 5, inside the same is a washboard 7.

Rigidly connected to the base 1 is a figure, the legs 8 of which are connected rigidly to the base 1, and the body portion 9 of the figure being pivoted upon a pin 10. The arms 11 of the figure are pivoted at 12. A wire pin 13 is connected to the body 9 of the figure, by means of its terminal end Id being driven into a socket in the lower portion of said body portion 9. The pin 13 is bent at 15 to provide an inclined arm 16, and said arm is provided with an eye 17 at its front end. A connecting rod 18 is attached to the eye 17, and the opposite end of said connecting rod is. pivoted to a crank 19 formed on a shaft 20. The shaft 20 is journaled in eyes 21 connected to legs 1, and formed on the shaft 20 is a hand crank 22.

By turning the crank 22, the body 9 of the figure will move back and forth, and the arms-11 will move up and down over the washboard 7, to simulate the operation of washing clothes.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that a toy made in accordance with this invention is simple in construction, amusing in operation, and can be produced at a low cost.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.

What is claimed is A toy comprising a base, a stand secured to one end of said base, a wash-tub secured to the stand and supporting a wash-board on the interior thereof, a figure rigidly secured to the opposite end of the base, comprising a pivoted body portion, arms pivoted to said body portion and normally resting upon the upper face of the wash-board, said body portion reduced at its lower end and provided with a socket therein, a wire pin engaged in said socket and said wirepin bent at right angles intermediate its ends and provided with an eye on the free end thereof, a connecting rod pivoted to said eye and adapted to extend between the base and the wash-tub, a pair of eyes carried by said stand, a shaft journaled within said eyes, a crank formed on said shaft intermediate its ends and pivotally connected to said connecting rod, and an operating crank formed on one end of said shaft.
