WINDOW SHADE Specification of Letters Patent.
0]? LAUREL, IOWA.
AND CURTAIN BRACKET.
Patented May 9,1916.
Application filed February 7, 1916. j Serial No. 76,731.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM SCHULTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Laurel, in the county of Marshall and State of Iowa,-. have invented new and useful Improvements in \Vindow Shade and Curtain Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window shade and curtain brackets adapted to provide supporting bearings for the roller of a. window shadeand to also provide supports for a curtain pole, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple and which may be readily attached to or removed from a window casing.
The invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined window shade and curtain pole bracket constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.' Fig. 2 1s a plan of the same.
My improved combined shade and curtain bracket is made from a single piece of sheet metal and comprises an attaching portion 1 which is adapted to be secured to one side of a window casing,'a lug or arm 2 which is at right angles to the attaching portion and projects from the front side thereof and which is provided with a bearing opening 3 in which one journal of a shade roller may. be mounted, and a fork 4 which extends up- .wardly from the outer end, of said lug or arm 2 and which comprises a pair of mem bers or arms 5, 6, adapted to receive a curtain pole between them. The member 5. is formed at the upper end of a web 7 which is bent at. right angles to the arm or lug 2 and the arm 6 is formed at the upper end of a web 8 which projects from the upper side of andthe; major portion ofwhich is in a common plane with the said lug or arm 2. By the provision of the web 7, a reinforce is provided for the outer end of the lug or arm 2 to strengthen the construction of the bracket and to strengthen the web 8. Said web 8 has its upper-portion offset and twisted to an angle of about degrees and the arm 6 is correspondingly twisted so that the opposing faces of the said arms 5, 6, are adapted to bear against opposite sides of the pole.
By the provision of the pole supporting fork arms at the upper side and outer end of the bearing portion of the bracket, the construction of the device is greatly simplified, effecting a corresponding economy in its manufacture and the bracket is adapted to hold the pole at a point higher than and projected farther from the window than the roller of the shade.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
The herein described integral sheet metal window shade and curtain bracket comprising an attaching portion to bear against one side of a window casing, an arm projecting outwardly from one side of the attaching.
portion and arranged at right angles there to, said arm having a bearing in its upper side for a shade roller, a web at the outer end of the arm, at right angles thereto and provided at its upper side with an upwardly and outwardly bent fork arm to bear against the outerside of a curtain pole, and an inner fork arm forming an upper extension of the outer portion of said bracket arm.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I WILLIAM SCHULTZ.
