BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1912.
Application filed December 2, 1910. Serial No. 595,260.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEVI WV. OLMSTEAD and CHARLES WV. Mnssnrnn, citizens of the United States, residing at Jersey Shore, in the county of Lycoming, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shade brackets.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character, that shall be simple of construction and thus easy to manufacture, that may readily be put up without employing tools for the purpose, that will be positive in retaining a curtain roller in place against accidental. disconnection, and that shall be capable of being used in connection with either of the curtain spindles, or in other words, that shall be interchangeable.
lVith the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and arrangement of part-s of a shade bracket, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a view in perspective, displaying a portion of a window frame with an outside bracket positioned thereon. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the form of bracket in Fig. 1.
In constructing the bracket shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a length of Wire of any suitable gage is bent intermediate of its ends to form a crotch 1 having a constricted throat 2, the bend 3 of the crotch constituting the pintle rest. One terminal of the wire is bent substantially at right angles to the crotch to present a shank 4; the end of which is point- I ed and threaded at 10 in any preferred manner. In order to limit the distance which the screw will enter the window casing a collar or stop 5 is provided, and while this will generally be preferred, it is to be understood that it may be omitted Without departing from the spirit of the invention. The other end of the wire is bent around but spaced from the crotch into a curved lever 6 the end of which is rebent to provide a finger hold 7. In order to facilitate the spreading of the crotch when the curtain is to be assembled with the bracket, one wall of the crotch is weakened at 8 as by being filed away, so that the opening of the crotch may be readily accomplished.
When the bracket is positioned, as shown in Fig. 1, it is designed that the bend 9 of the lever shall lie close to but not contact with the frame, so that any tendency of the latter to become marred by contact with the lever will be prevented. However, when the curtain is drawn upon, the bracket as a whole will yield, and the bend 9 of the lever will then contact with the window frame and will constitute a brace which will remove strain from the screw point 10.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that while the improvements herein set forth are simple in character, they will be thoroughly efficient for the purposes described, and will combine in the production of a durable and highly effective form of bracket.
e claim A shade bracket constructed from a length of wire bent intermediate of its ends to form a crotch having a weakened wall and a con stricted throat, one terminal of the wire being bent substantially at right angles to the crotch to provide a shank having a threaded end, the other terminal of the wire being bent around but spaced from the crotch to provide a lever for spreading the crotch and adapted to bend against the supporting wall upon the shade being inserted into the crotch to form a brace, as before set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereunto affixed our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
