ATTORNEY A UNITED STATES P TENT OFFICE a LUTHER; A. POWELL; or WARRIOR, LABAMA,
SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, LUTHnR A. 'PO\VELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warrior, .in the county of, Jefferson and;
State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Brackets, of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to a combined shade and curtain bracket and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will firmly hold both the shade and the curtain pole.
Another object of the invention is to form each bracket of the pair of a single piece of wire bent and curved to form a complete bracket provided with a screw point for attachment to the window frame.
Another object of the invention is to make the pole-supporting part with an opening therein so the curtain can pass through the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of-the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended clann.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a view of one bracket of the pair.
Fig. 2 is a like view of the other bracket.
In these figures, 1 represents the bracket for supporting the spring end of the shade roller, while 2 indicates the bracket for supporting the other end of the shade roller. As will be seen, these brackets are formed of a single piece of wire and one bracket has a circular portion 3 for supporting the curtain pole, a loop 4 for engaging the flat journal of the spring end of the shade roller Specification of Letters Patent. f I Patented May 27' 1.919 Application filed April 7, 1917. seria nb. 160,432. i v
upon itself instead 'offthe opening loop 4 shown in 1. This openingisto receive the round ournal attheother end of, the
shade roller.
The circular part 3 has .an opening 7 through which the curtain extends from the pole and at this point the wire is bent down to form a nipple 8 so as to prevent this part from catching in the curtain and the wire forming the other side of this opening is rounded as at 9 for the same purpose.
In forming the bracket I prefer to double the wire upon'itself and to bring the two pieces into close contact. At a slight distance from the point where the wire is doubled over the two wires are bent to-form the nipple8 and are then carried around in a circle to'form the pole engaging part 3. The outer part of thewire 10 does not complete the circle but is bent at 11 and from this point to the point where the loop i'is formed this wire is straight, is then bent to formthe open loop 4 and is then straight again to the end, where it is provided with the screw point 5. carried to almost complete the circle and is then curved as at 9 and is then straightened out and extends at an angle diverging from the part 10 tow a point opposite the The inner part 12 is beginning of the screw point 5 on the other part, where it is bent as at 13 and carried toward the other part and is then curved around said other part as at 14. Thus, a complete bracket is formed of one piece of wire, said bracket being supplied with se I curing means and having all projections liable to damage the curtain rounded off and also provided with means whereby the curtain may be extended beyond the brackets so that all excepting a small part of the brackets is hidden from view.
It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may '7 make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided such changes fall within the scope of the appended'claim.
I claim aslmy invention: v
A curtain bracket composed of a single piece of wire having its intermediate portion doubled upon itself, said doubled portion being bent in the form of a circle-to receive a curtain pole, the two parts of the 'of-the doubled portion being continued to almost complete theeircle then bent to form an additional support for the curtain holding formation.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in; presence of two Witnesses.
LUTHER A. POWELL.
