combination with a closure therefor con- UNITED STATE DOUGAL T. MCKINNON, OF TILDEN, NEBRASKA.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DOUGAL T. MCKIN- NON, a'citizen of the United States,.residing at Tilden, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Cigar-Moistener; and i do here by declare thefollowing to be a full, clear,
and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it' appertains to make and use the same. I e v This invention relates to an improved 'cigar moistener for show cases and the like, to keep the cigars, tobacco and the likemoist and in a good condition.
One of; the objects of the invention is to provide a moistener consisting of improved and practical features of construction, one of the features of construction consisting of a receptacle for the water or the like, in
structed of plaster Paris, which cover Specification of Letters Patent.
-' cieAn-iuorsTENEn.
drical, as'shown in the drawings, and 2 denotes a closure or top for the receptacle, the under surface of which is provided with an annular recess 3 having beveled walls a and curved corners 5, to receive a correspondingly shaped annular flange 6 extendsure concentric ,.:with the receptacle.
ing inwardly from the upper portion of the.
receptacle, in order to hold the top or clo- The top or closure may be constructed of any suitable material, such as plaster Paris, clay or the like, andmay be made in any suitable shape or configuration. The top or closure when bemg constructed may have sufficient suitable coloring matter mixed therewith,
in order to produce a permanent and lastmg color. Protruding downwardly from the under surface of the closure or top, and
concentric therewith and the receptacle is is provided with a downwardly extending stem, or wick having a wire mesh work cover or shield constituting a protector. By
virtue of the stem or wick the moisture feeds upwardly therethrough by capillary attraction, and the moisture from the cover of the receptacle passes off into the atmosphere'of the show case for keeping the cigars and the like moist.
The top or cover of the receptacle may be provided with any suitable ornamentation or configuration, for instance, something on the order of that shown in Figure 1, and in constructing the top or cover, sufficient suitable coloring matter may be mixed with the plaster Paris, to give it a permanent and lasting color, and one not easily soiled.
In practical fields the details of construction mayv necessitate I alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, ashereinafter set 'forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the moisture constructed in accordance with the invention. a view partly-in section and partly in elevation of. the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical I sectional view. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the moistener.
Referring to the drawings 1- designates a receptacle, which may be any suitable shape or configuration, for instance cylin- Fig. 2 is I a cylindrical elongated stem or wick 7 which is provided with a wire mesh work protecting shield 8. This cylindrical mesh work shield of the wick at its upper end may be provided with a disk flange 9, also of wire mesh work, which, when the top or closure is molded, is embedded within the top or closure, in order .to strengthen or reinforce the same.- The top or closure may be provided with any suitable ornamentation, as shown at 10. To obviate the necessity of removing the top or closure for filling the receptacle, the cylindrical wall of the receptacle is provided with an extension tube.
11, through which the water may be passed into thereceptacle. The moistener when to be employed is placed in the interior of a I pcigar show case, the same having been previously filled with water, which, through capillary attraction feeds through the wick or stem to the top or closure, where the moisture is thrown off into the atmosphere of the show case, to be consumed by the cigars or tobacco or the like.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A cigar or tobacco moistener comprising a receptacle, a top or closure therefor v constructed of porous material and having a contracted extension wick protruding into the receptacle and constructed of corresponding material, and a protector for the wick, said protector having at its upper portion a disk flange embedded in the top or closure for strengthening the same.
2. A cigar or tobacco moistener comprising a receptacle, a top or closure therefor constructed of porous material and having a contracted extension wick protrudlng into the receptacle and constructed of corretending filling tube,
ing a water container receiving the flange of the container to hold the top or closure concentric with the container, said top or closure having a contracted extension wick constructed of material corresponding to the material of the top or closure, said wick having a wire mesh work protector fitting the same, saidprotector having an annular disk flange at its upper portion embedded in the top or closure for strengthening the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DOUGAL T. McKINNON.
