$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 728,874, dated May-26, 190 3.
Application filed February 27, 1901. Serial No. 49,067. CN'o model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. OURRIER, a citizen of the United States, residing in North Troy, in the county of Orleans and State of Vermont, have invented an Improvement in Oilstone-Boxes, of which the following description, in connection with theaccompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention relates to an oilstone-box, and has for its'object to provide a simple and eflicient box which is provided with a receptacle for the stone and with a chamber for the oil, which chamber is provided with a suitable nozzle adapted to discharge the oil upon the stone when it is desired to oil the same. The oil-chamber is provided with a vent preferably made in a cap which normally covers the oil-inlet for said chamber. The oil-inlet is provided with a wall with which the vent cooperates when it is not desired to discharge the oil from the oil-chamber, thereby enabling the oilstone and its box to be carried in any position without danger of the oil running out, which is liable to create damage, besides being disagreeable and wasteful. These and other features of this invention will be pointed out in the claim at the end of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an oilstonebox embodying this invention with its stone in operative position; Fig.2, a top or plan view of the box shown in Fig. l; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, a represents an oilstone-box, preferably made of metal, which is provided with an open chamber for the reception of the stone, 1) of any usual or suit able construction The oilstone-box a, is also provided at one end with-a closed chamber 0, adapted to be filled with oil d through an inlet-opening e, which is normally closed by a cap or cover f. The oil-chamber c is provided with a discharge-nozzle g, which projects upward and is extended beyond the front wall it of said chamber, so as to overlap the end of the oilstone, which is inserted under the said nozzle when fitted into the box,
the said nozzle serving to hold the stone in place when the oil-box is tipped upward to cause the oil to run out onto the stone. 7
The cap or cover f is provided with a bottom wall '5, which has an opening j in it, which is adapted to register with the oil-inlet e when it is desired to vent the oil-chamber and which opening j in the normal position of the cover cocperates with the top of the oil-chamber to be closed thereby, and thus seal the oil-cham her and prevent discharge of oil therefrom when the stone is not to be used, thus enabling the oil-box and its stone to be carried or placed in any position without danger of the oil running out,- which would be liable to create damage and to soil the contents of a bag or chest in case the oilstone and its box should be carried about in such receptacles, besides permitting waste of oil. When it is desired to oil the stone, the operator turns the cap f until the vent-opening comes into line with the oil-inlet e and then tips or elevates the oil-chamber end of the box, whereupon the oil issues from the nozzle upon the upper surface of the stone, and when sufficient oil has been supplied to the stone the box is lowered into a horizontal position and the cap turned into the position shown in Fig. 3 to close the vent-opening j.
I claim The combination with an oilstone-box provided with an open chamber and with a normally closed oil-chamber in line with said open chamber and provided with an oil-inlet, an oilstone located in said open chamber, means to close said oil-inlet, and a dishargenozzle extended from said oil-chamber toward said open chamber to discharge by gravity oil upon the upper surface of'the oilstone, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. CURRIER.
