Be it known that I, 'GEORGE SPIVAK, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook .and State of Illinois, have invented new and.y useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the fol-y lowing is a specification.'

This invention relates to improvements in gloves. j I

An object of the invention is to economize in material and labor in the manufacture of gloves by providing a glove which is made of a main pattern or blank, preferably vmade of cut material'and adapted to provide a complete covering for several lingers of the hand and a partial'fcovering for several other fingers, said main pattern being united with an additional pattern or blank which isy adapted to supplement the said partial finger covering of the main pattern. This method of cutting glove patterns and uniting the same may be used in connection with soft and pliable materials, although it is especially adapted for the manufacture of` working gloves from soft fabric. It has been found that with the average size of a mans working glove, in each pair of gloves a saving of six inches of material mayy be obtained, and that the cost of cutting and sewing may also be considerably reduced.

With-the objectsof economizing in material and labor and'with other objects in View, the improvements in the manufacture of gloves are described in the following specification, and are pointed out in the appended claim; a glove pattern of the kind described being shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the main pattern for a glove; Fig. 2 is a plan view of a supplementary plan or pattern which enters into the manufacture; Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic plan view of thel two glove patterns in folded and. partly completed condition.

The main pattern of the glove, as shown in Fig. 1, is for the hand portion of the glove only, without the wrist portion of the same. The material is cut to provide a plurality of projections which, in the finished glove, are adapted to form the complete or partial coverings for the various lingers of the hand. These finger portions are designated in the drawing by the numerals 1a, 1b; 2a, 2b, and so forth, indicating the front and back coverings respectively for the Vthe line 1-1, as indicated in Fig. 1.

'Ihe entire pattern may be folded along a straight line 10, extending from a point between the nger portions 5a and 5b, and being in the finished glove located at the side of therhand, whereby the covers 5a and 5b f or the'small finger are placed in registration with each other and may be sewed together along the lines 11 and 12, providing in this manner a complete covering for the small Enger of the hand. It is to be noted in the description of the manufacture of this glove thaty the tendency is to locate the seams for ythe various finger portions approximately on the sides of the fingers and to give said coverings an approximately circular cross-seetion,like in ordinary gloves,

and that for this reason it may be necessary to bend or fold certain of these finger portions longitudinally on themselves until the seams reach the position suitable for the manufacture of a complete glove. outer strip 1fl may be folded against itself on the line 32, and .the ytwo strips 1a and 1b may be sewed together on the edges 33 and 34.

The two forefinger portions 2a and 2b are folded toward each other along the line 15, whereby the two edges 16 and 17 of these portions are brought into registration to complete the covering for the forenger, the portion 2a extending from a transverse slit with the edges 18 and 18', which slit is approximately in alinement with the slit 13 13 of the adjacent portion 5fL for the smallfinger.
