No. 872,137. PATENTED NOV. 26, 1907.
D. E. LAUFERTY. GLOVE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB 27, 1905.
J/VIF'A/ESSE-S: INVENTOR a I: r B 3 g 0am DAVID E. LAUFERTY, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907.
Application filed February 27. 1905. Serial No. 247.533-
.tion.
My inventionrelates to improvements in gloves, particularly cheap working gloves made of cloth or other like material.
The object of my present invention is to provide an improved working glove, s eciall desi ned tobe made of cloth or ot er so t flexi is and cheap material for men, and so constructed and arranged that both the back and palm portions, as well as the fin er stalls, exce t an insert for the back part 0 the mid- .dle' finger,- are integral and formed from a single lank with no appreciable waste of material, and having but a single seam in the back, thereby effects a material saving in the sewing required for each glove, as well as a saving of material, thread, time and factory expense, and having a much less tendency to rip.
My invention consists of a single blank for all the body portion except the gusset, and
'for the fingers excepting a single insert for the back portion of the middle finger. The thumb, 0 course, as usual bein -a separate 'portion'to be formedand inserte in the usual manner.
' duced from a blank having a sin The principal novel feature of my invention resides in the construction and arrange ment whereby a working glove can be prole finger portion insert, and but a single knuckle seam, thereby increasing the comfort and lessening the ex ense of the glove. Sum ar reference numerals refer to similar parts in the several views in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the back or outer. face of the body forniingblank, and
showing the relative arrangement of the opening for the thun'ib iece. Fig. 2 is a detail of the insert which orms the back portion of the middle finger. Fig. 3 is a perspective Fig. 1 the blank 1 of;
I0)81 size proportion and material has all lts' ger stalls integral except the insert '2,
Fig. 2. Theindex finger of the glove is formed by stitching together the opposite edges of {be integral portions 3 and 4. In the same manner the little finger of the-glove is formed by stitching together the opposite edges of inte ial portions5 and 6', and the third finger o the portion 7 which forms the back of the finger stall, over to the oition 8, which forms the alm portion of t e glove, and then securing t ieir adjacent edges togethen.
The middle finger stall is formed by securing the insert 2 to the back of the finger portion 9, thereby bringing the seam 10, Fig. 3, on the back of the love. i
The thumb portion 11 isformed in the usual or other ro or manner in the thumbopening 12 of t e lank 1. It is thus obvione that all the finger portions are integral except an insertwhich forms the back portion of-the middle finger; that the back portion of the third finger is at one end of the blank and the back portion of the little fin er is at the o osite end thereof; and that t e lines of fol of the blank are between the back and palm portions of the index and-little fingers, res ectively'. By this construction but a sing e longitudina seam is, formed on the'back of the glove, and but a sin le transverse seam is required at the base of t e finger portions.
The gusset 14 is formed and united to the glove body in the usual or other proper manner.
My love thus formed is specially adapted for a 0 map, working love made of cloth.
Having thus'descrfimd my invention and the manner of constructing the same, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A glove com rising a palm ply having ntegral therewit the palm portions of the index, second, third and little fingers, the back ply of the glove being constituted by ortions inte ral with the palm' ply at the cr ges of the little finger and index finger portions respectively, and united by a seam extending longitudinally of the back of the glove at a the glove is formed by folding.
Q I s?2,1s7 point adgecent the inner edge of the little finger, the. ack portion of the third finger being Signed by Ine at F mtegrelwith the back' ply including the back Allen, State of Indian ort Wayne, county of a, this'231'd day of Febj ruary, A. D. 1905. portlon of the index finger but separated DAVID E. LAUFERTY. 5 therefrom by a space to span the second fin: Witnesses:
