REVOLVING TABLE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coal Bluff, in the county of Vigo and Stateof Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Tables and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in revolving tables and has for its object to provide a table of this character by the use of which a person seated at the same may readily serve himself with food which is on the opposite side of the table without reaching across the same.
A further object is to provide a revolving table having a supplemental table spaced from the surface of the main table.
A still further object is to'provide a device of this character having an improved bearing on which the top of the table readily revolves.
Another object is to provide a simplyconstructed table of this character which may be very cheaply manufactured yet which will be extremely efficient in operation.
With the above and other objects in view my invention relates to certain features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter be more particularly described and claimed and as shown in the drawings wherein Figure l represents a top plan view of my improved revolving table; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a central vertical longitudinal section of the same; Figs. 4 and 5 are detail horizontal sections on the lines 44 and 5-5 of Fig. 3.
In the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several views, 1 designates the stationary portion of a polysided table top 2 in the center of which a circular opening 3 is formed to receive the revolving portion 4 of this improved table. I preferably construct this top with eight sides but it is obvious that any number of sides or even a round table would work equally as well when provided with my improved construction. This table top is supported by the radially extending arms 5 and is spaced therefrom by the spacing blocks 6 Specification of Letters Patent.

which are disposed at the outer ends of the arms 5 and secured thereto. by the fastening screws 7, said, screws also being extended into the stationary portion of the top .to hold the same. The facing members 8 are secured to the outer sides of the polysided top. to give a finished appearance. The radially extending arms 5 are secured to any preferred form of legs, but I preferably provide the pillars 9 one of which is secured to each of the radially extending arms 5, the bottom of the pillars resting upon the angular leg members 10.
The revolving portion .4 of the table top is preferably mounted on ball bearings to cause it to rotate more freely. I have devised an improved bearing for mounting a nut 18 as disclosed in Fig. 3. The plate 14 is preferably provided with a sleeve 19 which surrounds the opening adapted to receive the stud l6 and to project into the opening 20 formed through the revolving portion 4 of the table top, thereby centering said portion with respect to the stud 16. The plate 14 is preferably secured to the portion 4 of the top by means of fastening screws 21. From the foregoing description it is evident that this portion 4 of the table top will readily revolve around the threaded stud 16 on the balh bearings 15 which are kept in spaced relation by being disposed in the openings 17 in the disk 17. Suitable buttons or knobs are secured to the upper surface of the revolving portion 4 in order to readily rotate the same.
I preferably provide the supplemental table 22 which is spaced above thetop of the main table and adapted to revolve in a manner similar to the revolving portion of the main table. This additional table is preferably of circular formation and smaller in diameter than the revolving portion 4 and is supported thereon by means of the crossed arched brackets 23, the ends of which are 7 bent laterally to provide attaching flanges 24-, bolts 25 being passed through apertures therein and through the portion 4. A plate 11 similar in construction to the plate 11 is secured to the crowns of these cross brackets by means of a set of molts 15 which extend through openings in the plate 11 and through alined openings in thecrowns of said brackets. The other parts of the bearing which support the supplemental table 22 are of similar construction to the bearing which supports the revolving portion of the main table and therefore need not be described.
rrom the foregoing it is obvious that the supplemental top 22 may be revolved at the same time the portion l of the main table top is being revolved or it may be moved separately therefrom.
While I have described the elements adapted to perform the function of my invention it is evident that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
In a device of the class described, a support, a pair of crossed arched brackets, the crown of one crossing the crown of the other in the center at right angles, the free ends of the arms of said brackets being bent laterally to form attaching feet, the intersecting portions of said brackets having a plurality of alined openings, a fiat circular plate on the crowns of said brackets having openings alined with the openings of said crowns, fastening elements in the openings in said plates and crowns, a threaded stud projecting upwardly from the center of said plate, an additional fiat circular plate having a central aperture therein to receive said stud, said plate also having an integral sleeve surrounding said aperture, a ball carrying disk interposed between said plates, bearing balls disposed in said disk, a nut on the threaded end of said stud to hold the plates together, and a table top on the last mentioned plate, said plate having a plurality of openings therein to receive fastening elements to secure the table top thereto, saidtop having a central aperture receiving said sleeve, whereby the same is securely held in a central position with respectto the other parts of the device.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN JOHNSON.
