Description

H. LEE.
COMBINATION POOL AND BILUARD TABLE.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 5 1915.
Patented; July 23, 1918.
LEWQRZMQ ATTOR I WI T/VESSES:
Q1.1.Go1unr1\ratrronrooi. AND nrnnrnnnlranrn, I 1
To all whom it may mam:
nan known that" Tfl'Io/ren linen, a-citizen of. the United States, residingatHousmain the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Pool and Billiard Tables, of whiclnthe following is a specification,
improvements in a combination billiard table.
The object of the invention is to provide a circular table having peripheral pockets, and a central pocket, of the ordinary construction and having also plugs whereby the pockets may be filled and the table converted from a pool to a billiard table, adapted to be used in playing said games in a modified form.
A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of a circular removable covering, whereby the device may be converted from a game table to a table suitable to be used for ordinary household purposes.
A. still further feature of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the table may be adjusted relative to the supporting stand and thus may be easily leveled.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, an example of which is. given in this specification and illustrated V in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, is a plan view of the device, with a portion of the relnov ble covering broken away, and,
Fi g. 2, is a side elevation thereof, partially in section.
' Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in eachof the figures, the numeral 1, refers to a stand, which may be of any desirable construction and mounted uponwhich is the circular table 2. This table is supported relative to the stand by means of the braces 3, whose lower ends are secured to said stand and whose upper ends radiate relative thereto and are secured to the underside of the table. Each brace is provided with a turn buckle, as 4, by means of whichit may be lengthened or shortened and the table thus adjusted and leveled.
Surrounding this table 2, and upstanding therefrom, is the annular rim 5, which may HOARD LEEOF HOUSTON, TEXAS;
This invention relatesto new anduse'l' l,
pool and fipeciificatioirof Letters Patent. aptentgdJuly23,191r8 re rises inea ap rjii 5, 15. Serial n6. 19,631. l
be I formed shown in Fig.1; p p Securedto the inner side of this rim the annular r b, 6, wh 1ch 1 s preferably trianare formed of the usual netting, and the ribs 6, are cut away opposite the pockets to permit the passage of the cue ball into said pockets. Preferably four pockets will be provided, which are spaced a uniform distance apart, but a greater number may be provided, if desired.
A. central aperture 9, is cut through the table 2, and from which leads the chute 10,
arranged underneath the table and whose free end carries the pocket 11. i i
When it is desired to use the table for playing billiards the central aperture and side pockets may be closed by means of the plugs 12, and 13.
A circular removable covering l l, is provided, by means of which the table may be converted from a game table to a table suitablefor ordinary purposes. The underside of this covering has a plurality of downwardly projecting shoulders 15, which are spaced apart therearound and fit within the ribs 6, so as to prevent the lateral displaceiuentof said covering. i i
The fact that the table is round will make the game more difiicult to play, and conse quently more interesting and scientific. The cushions, pockets and other parts of the ordinary game table are constructed in the usual manner, and the dimensions and materiallof which the parts are formed, may be-var-ied to suit the circumstances under which the table is to be used.
While I have shown only one form of this device, it is obvious that the structure thereof may be changed without departing from the principle of the invention, and ll hereby reservethe right to make such mechanical modifications as may be found desirable, so long as it keep within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is: p
p 1. A device of the character described including a stand, a circular table mounted thereon, rods secured to said stand and table respectively, each rod being formed into sections and turn buckles connecting said seccontinuous or segments, "as
in cross section, and is formed of rubtions-and provided for 'adiusting the table relative to the stand.
2. In a device of the chanaeter described in combination, a table havlng a base therefor, rods secured to saidflbase, rods secured to said table turn buckles for adjusting the .wble relative .300 the; base,; an upstanding. an-
nular rim surrounding said table peripheral nular i A J vice o th ham e d s ri ed, il i igx a'j'stex di and .pi cula t ble moun thereon, upstand ng annular rim surtivo subscribing Witnesses,
rounding the same, peripheral pockets carried by the table, a circular covering resting ,oni lle rim, a shoulder projecting downwardly from the inner end of said covering and resting against said rim to prevent the lateral displacement of the covering and adjustable means securing the tablev on ithe stand andplioviding for the adjustment of the table relative to the stand.
In testimony whereof I'have signed ny name to this specification in. the, presence of H ARD Witnesses:
