Description

D. B. WOOD.
BLOTTER HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED mm: 12, 1915.

THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH C0, WASHINGTON. D. c
- WEED A S A NT. omoa DANIEL B. WOOD, or nannsrowiv, KENTUCKY.
' storms- OLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, DANIEL B. VVOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bardstown, in .the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blotter- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in blotter holders and it is an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the blotter is normally maintained at a predetermined location.
' It is also an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character including a. holder provided with novel and improved means whereby a blotter may be effectively clamped thereto.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved blotter holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter'mor'e be carefully defined in the appended claim.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a blotter holder constructed inaccordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view, partly in bottom plan and partly in section, of my device as herein embodied; and Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of my invention as herein disclosed, the flexible member being shown in fragment.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a body or holder of predeftermined configuration having secured to one face thereof a cylindrical casing 2 having rotatably supported at substantially the axial center thereof the spring roller 3, rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the adjacent face of the body 1 and having secured thereto an extremity of a flexible Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Apr. 11 1916 Application filed June 12, 1915. serial No. 33,841.
member 6 adapted to be wound there-' around and extending through the slot 5 produced in the casing and terminating in a. securing member 4, herein disclosed as a metallic ring. The securing member 4 is adapted to be connected at a suitable point upon a desk or other support, and it will be at. once appreciated that the spring roller 3 will serve to normally maintain the holder in close proximity to said point of attachment. ploy the device it is only necessary to take v hold of the body or holder 1 and move the same to the place required and during this movement the spring roller 3 is placed under such tension as'to automatically return the body or holder 1 to its normal position when released.
Howevenwhen it is desired to em L The face of the body or member 1 is provided with a clamp 7 whereby ablotter B or the like maybe readily clamped tothe holder or body 1', and, as herein embodied, such clamp comprises a substantially U- shape' member formed preferably of wire of requisite gage, the stems 8 of which being free of the body or base 1 and having their ends adjacent the base of the clamping member coiled, as at 9, whereby the efiiciency of r the clamp will be materially increased.
The marginal portion of the body 1 with which the stems 8 coactis disposed on an angle of substantially 45 and'the stems 8 are correspondingly bent. By this arrangement the blotter 'B may be effectively employed with a possibility of breaking the samev substantially entirely eliminated. The
inclined margin of the body 1 is disposed in a direction away from the side of the body with which the casing 2 is secured.
From the foregoing description, it .is thought to be obvious that a blotter holder constructed in accordance with'my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particu-.
larly well adapted for use'by reason of the convenience and facility with which ltmay be assembled, and will also "be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the princlples and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to a 105 be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the sev eral parts herein 'shoWn in carrying out my carried by the body overlying the inclined 1o invention in practice. margin thereof.
I claim: In testimony whereof I hereunto afiiX my A blotter holder comprising abody, a signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
'5 spring roller carried thereby and rotatable DANIEL B. WOOD.
about an axis substantially perpendicular to the adj aoent face of the body, the margin Witnesses:
of the body being inclined in a direction MORGAN Y WELL, away from the roller, and clampingmeans C. T. ATKINSON.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for fivecents each, by, addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
