Be it known that I, ELBERT J. Tionnnon, a citizen of the United States, residing at eaufort, in the county of Franklin and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cord- Holders; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to cord holders and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device for holding a cord taut about an envelop or package.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device as specied, which i embodies a casing having one side thereof detachably connected to the main body of the casing, and to form a depending sleeve upon the inner surface of the removable side, which sleeve rotatably supports a cord retaining spool; to provide the spool with a facial recess in which is positioned a coil spring, which spring is coiled oppositely to the direction of the coiling or winding of the cord upon the spool, so as to coil the spring upon the unwinding of the cord the spool, whereby when the cord is released from tension, the unwinding of the spring will rewind the cord upon the spool.

iVith the foregoing' and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

The outer end of the cord 19, which extends out of the casing 1, has a ring 22 secured to its outer end to prevent the end of the cord from passing through the opening 20.

The pin 9 has an enlarged head 24 formed upon its outer end, which extends out of the bore or recess 7. The head 24 is corrugated and has a spiral spring 25 coiled about the same. One end of the spiral spring 25 is positioned beneath the under surface of the head Q4, so that when the screw threaded in 9 is inserted in the bore 7, the lower end of the spring 25 will be securely clamped between the under surface of the head 24 and the outer surface of the cover plate 4. The upper end of the spring 25 extends above the top of the head 24, and is provided for receiving the end of the cord 19 therebetween, for securely clamping it between adjacent convolutions of the spiral spring, for preventing slipping of the cord, and for holding it in position about a package, as is indicated in Fig. 1, against the tension of the coil spring 14.

In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scopeofwhat is claimed.
