PIN-POINT GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1916.
Application filed March 17, 1913. Serial No. 755,031.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. FOLEY, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Point Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hat pin point protectors; and it has for its primary object the provision of a housing member formed of separable sections and accommodating yieldable gripping devices whereby the tension of said devices against the pin may be regulated on adjusting sections of the housing relatively.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a side view of the protector; and Fig.
2 is a longitudinal section therethrough.
The protector comprises a housing 1 formed of companion substantially cylindrical sections 2 and 3, the former being open throughout and having its walls provided in a portion of their length with a thread I for receiving a corresponding external thread on a portion of the section 3. The section 3 is thus adapted to be inserted in the section 2 in such manner that one end of the latter will be closed while the opposite end will be open to permit of the required insertion in or removal of the pin from the housing, as will be understood. The outer end of the section 3 is provided with a manipulating head 5, whereby said section may be'turned in the mating section 2 for a purpose to be hereinafter explained. The section 3 is provided with a relatively long substantially conical passage 6, while at diametrically opposite points within the section 2 are mounted companion gripping devices 7 which are preferably in the form of fiat springs having free ends extending beyond the outer end of the sectionQ and arranged in the passage 6 of the section 3 and provided with free effective gripping ends 8 which bear directly against the adjacent flared walls of the passage 6.
From this construction, it is apparent'that the two sections 2 and 3 of the device may be adjusted relatively, so as to cause the flared walls of the passage 6 to bear against the mentioned free ends of the gripping devices 7 so as to regulate the tension of the devices and cause said free ends to bear effectually against the adjacent point of the pin and hold the point operatively concealed in the housing. The walls 9 of the section 3 merge directly onto the inner walls of the section 2 of the housing so as to provide an unobstructed path to the movement of the pin.
I claim A pin protector comprising in combination, male and female tubular members, each of said members'being of uniform diameter throughout its length, said female member having a uniform bore opening at both ends of the member and interiorly threaded, a head on said male member, the male member being exteriorly' threaded and adjustably associated with the bore of said female memher, and having a conical-shaped bore with of said protector upon adjustment of said male and female members. i
In testlmony whereof I have aflixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. FOLEY.
