LOUIS LASSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HAT-PIN GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 17,1912.
Application led February 6, 1911. Serial No. 606,701.
To all whom i may concern;
Be it known that I, LOUIS LAssoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat- Pin Guards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hat pin guards, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which may be positioned on the pointed end of any ordinary hat pin, which will prevent injury being done by the pin, and which will prevent loss of the hat pin.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a view illustrating my improvements in operative position. Fig. 2, is a view in longitudinal section. Fig. 3, is a view in section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4L is a similar view in section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
1, represents a hat pin having any suitable head 2 thereon.
12 is my improved guard which comprises a metal tube having a hollow ornamental head 16 at one end. Inside of the tube 12, a tubular clamping spring 15 is fixed and said spring 15 and the tube 12 at their entrance ends are flared outward as shown to afford a ready entrance for the pin 1. Spring 12, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2, tapers throughout its length and is split throughout its length at one side as shown at 9. In the opposite side of the tubular spring 7, a longitudinal slot 10 is provided, extending inward a short distance from its smaller end. This smaller end of the spring tube 12 is flattened or oval in cross section as shown whereby two spring jaws are formed, which are bent toward each other, and curved in the arc of a circle greater than the normal arc of the tube. These jaws are spread apart by the pin and securely clamp the pin. The tube 12 is split longitudinally and is provided between its ends with a bead 13. Into this bead 13, a similar bead 14: in the tubular spring 15 is projected and holds the spring against movement. This tube 12 is provided with a hollow head 16 in which a filling of cork or other suitable material 17 is located to receive the pointed end of the pin.
Having thus I claim as new ters Patent is:
A hat pin guard comprising a cylindrical casing, a truncated conical tubular spring secured in said casing, the smaller end of said tubular spring inclosed in the tube, and the outer ends of said casing and tube flared forming an entrance for the pin, said spring tube split throughout its length at one side, and split longitudinally from its smaller end inwardly a distance less than the length 0f the spring to form jaws, and said jaws at the smaller end of the spring bent toward each other, and curved in the arc of a circle greater than the normal arc of the tube, an annular bead on said tubular spring between the ends of said tubular spring, and an internal annular groove in the casing receiving said bead, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
