Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERBERT A. KLING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Westwood, Bergen county, State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Invention Relating to Dispensing- Containers for Shaving-Soap, &c., of which the following is a specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,

which forms part of the same.

This invention relates especially to a feeding soap box or dispensing contalner adapted for use with sticks of shaving soap or the like and preferably comprising a. sheet metal threaded casing having at its upper portion a cylindrical alining tip and inturned gripping flange to engage the article, a follower having a threaded base cooperating with the threads in the casing and a feeder bottom revolubly connected to the lower end of the casin as by locking groove and bead and having feeder arms extending through slots in the follower, and a suitable cover closing the upper end of the easing and having, if desired, a threaded connection therewith.

In the accompanying drawing showing in a somewhat diagrammatic way an illustrative embodiment of this invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken along the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the cover. Fig. 5 is a corresponding view of the body or casing before assembly. Fig. 6 shows on a correspondin scale in vertical section the follower, and Fig. 7 the feeder bottom in perspective. p

In the illustrative embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing the casing or container body 4 may be formed of nickel plated brass or any other suitable material and may be stamped or drawn in the usual way to form a seamless tube in which suitable screw threads or helical corrugations may be spun or rolled. The upper end of the casing is preferably made of somewhat smaller diameter and given a smooth cylindrical shape for 'sufiicient distance to form an alining tip and the extreme upper end may be bent or spun inward into the form of a guiding or gripping flange 5 to firmly engage or grip the article 21 suchas a cake of shaving soap or the like, it being des1rable in some cases to form separated slits such as 18 in the inner edge of this flange so as to increase its resiliency.

A suitable follower preferably formed of sheet metal so as to have the convex top 7 for contact with the central portion of the article may be formed with a beveled port1on Sadjacent its outer edge and with a base 6 having formed therein threads 20 of such character as to properly cotiperate with the threads in the casing. When this follower is rotated with respect to the casing in any desired way it isgradually fed up through the casing by the cooperating threads on these parts so as to feed the article out of the upper end of the casing and compensate for its use. bottom revolubly mounted at the lower end of the casing and having suitable operating connections with the follower to effect its rotation. This feeder bottom 11 maybe stamped or drawn'out of similar sheet metal so as to preferably have formed thereon the desired numberof feeder arms which may be integral therewith in some cases. As

shown in Figs. 3 and 7 three such feeder arms 15, 16, 17 are shown as formed inte-' gral with the feeder bottom and connected with its upper portion which is preferably given the form of a guide flange 14 fitting within the lower cylindrical portion 19 of the casing. These parts may be revolubly connected in any suitable way, as for instance by forming a. locking groove 13 in a the bottom above the lower bead 12 therein and forming a cooperating locking bead or flange 10 in the lower portion 19 of the easing. After these parts shown in Figs. 5 and i 7 are brought together a suitable spinning or nurling tool may readily flange in this locking bead so as to permanently connect the parts. As shown inFigs. 2, 3 and 6 these feeder arms 15, 16 and 17 may extend just inside the threaded base 6 of the follower and pass through suitable feed slots or apertures 9 formed in the follower so as to ositively rotate the follower in unison wit the'feeder bottom and thus screw it up gradually through the casing as the soap or other article is fed forward, the feeder arms loosely engaging the article and maintaining it insubstantial alinement when three or more feeder arms are used, although two such arms are suflicient for a su itable feeding connection and somewhat minimize end of the sanieso that when the follower has been forced ,to its ,full extent the backward ln'oveinent of the" feeder bottom such as would be necessaryitoscrew the follower down again causes the follower toenandp'revefltthe retraction of the follower which is necessary to refill the container.
