Description

C. W. MUELLER:
BIRD PERCH.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 14. 1915- Patented Mar. 21, 1916.

BIRD-PERCI-I.
Application filed April 14, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES W. MUELLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Bird-Perch, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a removable perch for birds; to facilitate, by the removal of perches of the character mentioned, the cleaning of bird houses; and to reduce the cost of manufacture and simplify the construction of articles of the character mentioned.
Drawngs.Figure l is a perspective view of a perch of the character mentioned installed in service; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Descriptz'0n.As shown in the drawings, the perch embodies a disk-like platform 7 and a wire bracket 8. The bracket 8 may be constructed from any suitable wire. The outer end is bent to form a closed loop 9, providing in this manner an eye for a screw 10. To fix the position of the platform 7 with reference to the bracket 8, a staple 11 is driven into the platform 7 over the bracket 8, as seen best in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The wire forming the bracket 8 is bent at the outer end thereof to form an open-ended hook the body portion 12 whereof is perpendicular to the bracket 8 and upper surface of the platform 7. The overturned member 13 of the hook is separated from the bodymember a distance equal to the diameter of the shanks of screws 14. The screws 14 operate as retaining or hang Specification of Letters Patent.

ing members for the perch, and are suitably placed or driven into the standing structure 15.
In service, the platform 7 and bracket 8 are disposed as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The standing structure 15 having been previously provided with fastening members such as the screws 14, the hook end of the bracket 8 is passed over said screws, to engage the same.
When it is desired to clean the birdhouse when equipped with perches of the character mentioned, said perches are quickly removed by lifting the hook end of the bracket 8 from engagement with the standing structure 15. The house is then cleaned, and the perch replaced to the position fro-m which it was removed.
Claim:
A bird perch comprising a disk-like platform; a wire bracket therefor, rigidly c0nnected therewith, said, bracket embodying an upwardly-extending, downwardlybpening hook member formed integrally there with, said hook member being disposed in perpendicular relation to said bracket and to said platform, the sides of said hook member being spaced apart and disposed in parellel relation to form a slot to engage fastening members having relatively enlarged heads.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES WILLIAM MUELLER. l/Vitnessesz JOHN W. ZELTMANN, GUSTAV MEYER.
