NECKTIE STRETCHER AND PRESSER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April lO, 1915. Serial No. 20,512.
17 o aZZ whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, PALMER BRUNSTAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomer, in the county of Chippewa and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie Stretchers and Pressers, of which the following isa specification.
The invention relates to a necktie stretcher and presser, and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character wherein neckties can be conveniently placed therein after being worn so that the ties will be stretched and pressed to render the same smooth with all wrinkles or creases removed resultant from the wearing and tying of the ties.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein a number of ties can be placed therein for the stretching and pressing of the same, thus rendering the ties in fit condition free from wrinkles or creases, the device being of novel construction to afford a holder for the ties for the stretching and pressing thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efiicient in use, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, com bination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with the invention open. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the positions of the parts of the device prior to the closing thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view showing the device partly closed. Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal. sectional view showing the device closed and a tie clamped therein. Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the device. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device comprises a'tray-like base A, formed in two Sections 10 and 11, respectively, which are flexibly connected together through the medium of hinges 12, which are fastened to the inner faces of the bottoms thereof. The base A is formed with the marginal wall 13 which at the longer edges thereof is cut away at the point of the hinge joint between the sections so as to permit the section 11 to be moved relative to the section 10 for a purpose presently described.
Swingingly connected to the base A is a cover section B which is connected to one end of the section 10 through the medium of hinges 14, and secured to the inner face of said cover section are presser boards 15 arranged in spaced relation to each other longitudinally of the cover section, while located contiguous to the hinged end of the latter and fixed to the inner face thereof is a holding block 16 having a friction grip covering 17 for a purpose presently described.
Mounted in the base A anduconn'ected to i the bottoms of the sections 10 and 11 thereof are medial partition strips 18 and 18 which divide the base into separated compartments 19 adapted to receive neckties to be acted upon by the presser boards 15 on the closing of the cover section B relative to the base.
Fixed in the strip 18' carried by the section 11 is a transverse rail or bar 20 forming a hanger for the neckties which are engaged thereon at the points of the folds therein so that the stretches of the ties when folded will lie in superimposed relation to each other within the compartments 19 to be acted upon by the presser boards 15 and the holding block 16, which latter engages with the stretches of the ties at the ends thereof,
the strip 18 on the section 10 being cut away to permit the block 16 to be engaged with the ends of the ties held in the base.
The neckties are slipped onto the rail or bar 20 from the free ends thereof so as to lie in the compartments 19 at opposite sides of the strips 18 and 18' in the sections 10 and,11 respectively of the base.
WVithout the sections 10 and 11 and connected to the same to bridge the joint therebetween are coiled tension springs 21 which serve to normally lift the section 11 so that it will be disposed at an angle to the section 10, and on the closing of the cover section B the holding block 16 grips the ends of the neckties hung upon the rail or bar 20, and the said cover section acts upon the section 11 to move the same against the resistance of the springs 21 into alinement with the Patented Mar. 14, 1916.
section 10, thereby stretching the neckties, and upon completely closing the cover section the presser boards 15 act upon the stretches of the ties to press the same while the device is closed.
Connected to the base A and cover section B near the hinge connection thereof with the said base are coiled tension springs 22 which serve to automatically close the cover section. Also carried by the cover section are hook-like catches 23 which engage keeper pins 2% mounted in the marginal side wall 13 of the section 10 for the fastening of the cover section B in closed position.
What is claimed is 1. A necktie stretcher and presser comprising a tray-like base formed in two sections hingedly connected to each other, a
cover section swingingly connected to the base, presser boards mounted on the cover section, a tie hanger arranged within the outermost'cover section of the base, means for tensioning and angularly disposing the said outermost section with relation to the innermost section of the base, and a block carried by the cover section and adapted to engage thefree ends of ties when carried by the hanger to hold the same for the stretching thereof on displacing the outermost section in alinement with the innermost section of the base.
2. A necktie stretcher and presser comprising a tray-like base formed in two sections hingedly connected to each other, a cover section swingingly connected to the base, presser boards mounted on the cover section, a tiehanger arranged within the outermost cover section of the base, means for tensioning and angularly disposing the said outermost section with relation to the innermost section of the base, a block carried by the cover section and adapted to engage the free ends of ties when carried by the hanger to hold the same for the stretching thereof on displacing the outermost section in alinement with the innermost section of the base, and a partition in the base for forming separated compartments for ties.
3. A necktie stretcher and presser comprising a tray-like base formed in two sections hingedly connected to each other, a cover section swingingly connected to the base, presser boards mounted on the cover section, a tie hanger arranged within the outermost cover section of the base, means for tensioning and angularly disposing the said outermost section with relation to the innermost section of the base, a block carried by the cover section and adapted to engage the free ends of ties when carried by the hanger to hold the same for the stretching thereof on displacing the outermost section in alinement with the innermost section of the base, a partition in the base for forming separated compartments for ties, and springs connected with the base and the cover section to tension the latter for the automatic closing thereof. I
4. A necktie stretcher and presser comprising a tray-like base formed intwo sections hingedlv connected to each other, a cover section swingingly connected'to the base, presser boards mounted on the cover section, a tie hanger arranged within the outermost cover section of the base, means for tensioning and angularly disposing the said outermost section with relation to the innermost section of the base, a block carried by the cover section and adapted to engage the free ends of ties when carried by the hanger to hold the same for the stretching thereof on displacing the outermost section in alinement with the innermost section of the base, a partition in the base for forming separated compartments for ties, springs connected with the base and the cover section to tension the latter for the automatic closing thereof, and means for locking the cover section in closed relation to the base.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
