. GLOVE HOLDER. S No 273,502. Patented M-ar.6,1883,

WITNESSES A? I r NITED STATES PATENT OFFIC GLOVE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,502, dated March 6, 1883. Application filed December 1, 1882. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, EDUARD A. FRANKLIN, of Brenham, in the county of Washington and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Glove-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for holding gloves, bills, papers, and other articles in such a manner that any one of the articles can be withdrawn from the holder without disturbing the rest.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved glove-holder, showing one end raised. Fig. 2 is a plan view of part of the same, showing it opened. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the linemo, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view of the clasp.
Two strips, AB, of pasteboard, wood, leather, or other suitable material, are pressed together by elastic bands 0, which have one of the ends secured to the upper strip, A, then pass along the under surface of the same, through the same to theupper surface, then around the edge of the strips A and B, through the strip B, along the inner surface ofthe same,
then through the same to the outer'surface, and then up around the edges of the strips A B. A hook, D, provided with an upwardlyprojecting handle-lug, E, is secured to the free end of each elastic band. The curved prong of the hook D is adapted to be*passed into a hook-shaped plate or catch, G, which is secured to the upper surface of the strip or plate A by means of prongs a, which also serve to hold the band C to the strip. The hooks D are also secured to the end of the bands 0 by means of prongs. The ends J of the strips are hinged to swing upward, and are united by an elastic band, H, which is secured to the under surface of each hinged part J, and draws the said hinged parts down on the strip B.
The gloves, bills, letters, &c., are placed between the strips A B, and are pressed between the said strips by the elastic bands G. For placing the articles between the strips A B the hooksD are withdrawn from the catches G, and the-strips A B are swung from each other, as shown in Fig. 2. After the articles have been placed on the strip B the strip A is folded onthe'articles, and the hooks are passed into the catches G for the purpose of holding the holder closed. If a glove or other article is to be removed, it can be examined before removal by'raising one hinged end of the.
strip A. As soon as the raised end J is released it is drawn down on the article by the her bands, which enter open recesses on their edges; but 7 A What I do claim as new and of my invention is 1. In a glove-holder, the upper plate, A, having two end sections, J J, hinged to a middle section, and connected by a rubber band, H, passing between the two-plates A B, as shown and described.
2. In a glove-holder, the combination, with the plates A B, of the transverse elastic bands (1 0, having one end attached to the under surface ot' the upper plate or strip, A, and passing around .the corner of both plates, and between the middle portions thereof, the outer end being secured by any suitable fastening, for the purpose specified.
3. In a glove-holder, the combination, with the strip B, of the strip A, provided with hinged ends J, the elastic band B, for drawing the ends J down, and elastic bands for holding the strips A B together, substantially as herein shown anddescribed, and for the purpose set forth.
EDUARD A. FRANKLIN.
