Description

R O L I A T E F 6 9 0 2 N IA VD 0E l. SF N 0 T A C L P F A Patehted- Mar. 14-, 1916.
.M. I W H 1 WITNESSES A TTORIVEYS- swans n. cannon, or sr. tours, r/zrssocnr.
To (ZZZ whom it may; concern Be it known that I, ELMER Terms. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of StfLouis, Missouri, have invented a new and improved Stove, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention'relates to heating stoves and has to deal more particularly with means whereby the stove can be readily adjusted as to its heating-capacity according to seasonal or diurnal changes in temperature.
The invention has for its general objects to provide a device in the nature of a false top arranged within the upper portion of the stove and adjustable toward and from the fire in the ire-box so as to vary the ca-..
pacity of the combustion chamber, the said false top having suitable means for adjustment and also means for forming a continw ation of the smoke flue for: conductiugfofi the smoke and gases.
.' I A further object of the invention isthc provision of a device in the nature oii-an Specification of Letters Patent.
attachment capable of use in connection.
with any ordinary stove and which is of simple, durable and substantial design.
With such objects in view, and others which will appear as the description pro ceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will. he set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention and wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in odth the views, Figure 1' i a side View of the stove with the upper -portionhroken away to iliustrate the attachment; and Fig. '2 is a perspective View of the attachment removed.
Referring to thc drawing, A designates a. stove of any approved construction. which has a fire-box portion 1, a combustion chamber section 2 and a top 3, which latter has an open neck i for connection with the smoke flue 5, and also the top is an opening closed hy a hinge door 3" whereby coal car supphedato the stove or access to the L 6 interior had. The att chment B, wherehy'the capacity oi combustion chamber can he varieiconsi ts of a frusto-conical moi nicer 6 which is of same general shape as the to of the etc so as to fit'ageinsttl e under si e there- Eatented Mar. 14. into.

' of, and secured to the member 6 which has clearance i provided between one flue and smoke pipe that any gas or smoke that accumulates on the upper side of the member 3, when the latter is in lowered position, can
he drawn oil' by the draft through the smoke pipe. The member 6 has a door 6 in line 1th the door 3. The attachment is supported in the stove by means of a screw 8 which oasses through an opening 9 in the top of the stove, and is fastened to the memher 6, and on this screw is a nut or equivalent device, the turning of which will move the screw up and down and thereby adjust the position of the attachment to vary the etfective capacitv or size of the combustion chamber. :Qhviously. by adjusting the at tachment toward or from the coals or fuel.
changes may he made when des red as fall smokeconduit connected with the top, with smoke in attachment comprising a member 'eX- tending across the combustion chamber and formed with an opening, a flue connected with the member at the opening and extending upwardly therefrom into the smoke conduit, and a device serving to suspend the combustion chamber, a top having a smoke .fthe wall of the combustion chamber to.
opening, and a smoke conduit, with an attachment for varying the capacity of the combustion chamber, said attachment comprising a frusto-conical member with its peripheral edge slightly spaced from permit of vertical movement, said member ,having an opening, a flue connected with the member at the opening and extending upwardly into the smoke flue, with a slight space between the flue and conduit, and means for adjustably positioning the attachment in the stov the smoke flue,
4. The combination of a stove including a combustion chamber, a top having a smoke opening, and a smoke conduit, with an attachment for varying the capacity of the combustion chamber, said attachment comprising a frusto-conical member with its peripheral edge slightly spaced from the wall of the combustion chamber to permit of vertical movement, said member having. an opening, a flue connected with the member at the opening and extending upwardly into with a slight space between the flue and conduit, means for adjustably positioning the attachment in the stove, said top and member having alining openings, and doors for the openings.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
