Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14., 191
Application filed August 20, Serial No. 46,429.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnnonnion EISENHUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Massaging Devices for Brushes and the like; and I do hereby declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has reference, generally, to improvements in massaging devices; and, the present invention relates, more particularly, to a novel means for the attachment of a massaging device to the handle of a shaving brush, or the like.
The present invention, therefore, has for its principal object to provide a novel and simply-constructed massaging device for brushes, and especially for shaving brushes; and, the invention has for its further object to provide a novel and simple means for detachably securing a massagingdevice to the handle of a brush, with a view of easily andquicklydetaching the massaging device when it is desired to remove the same for cleansing purposes, and to again easily and quickly secure the massaging device in its operative position upon the handle of the brush, after it has been cleansed.
The invention has for its further object to provide in connection with a detachable massaging device for shaving brushes, a guard in connection therewith which will prevent the possibility of soap and water getting upon the massaging fingers of the device, and thereby contaminating the same 7 with foreign matter, or destroying the usefulness of the massaging device.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.
.Vith the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel detachable V I massaging device for brushes hereinafter 7 set forth; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements andcombinations of the various devices and parts,;'as well as in the details of the constructlon of the said-parts, all of which will specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims which are appended to and'which form an essential part of the said specification.
The invention-is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a massaging device and a shaving brush to thehandle of which said massaging device is" attached,
and all made according to and representing one embodiment of the principles of the 1 present invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the detachablemassaging device; 3 is a ployed in the said above described view, to
indicate corresponding parts' Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference-character l 1nbe more fully described in'the following dicates a suitable brush, such as a shaving handle, as 2. The massaging device, which is detachably mounted upon the said handle, is indicated by the reference-character 3, and the same consists, essentially, of a suitable base, as 4, which may be'made of wood, or any other suitable material, and
be mounted upon the of said button, in themanner' illustrated more particularly in Fig. Sof the drawings,'is a fleXible ca-p- 7 brush, and which is provided with the usual like element, as 9, madeof rubber or other analogous material, the back of said element being made with an open portion 10, and its main body-portion 11 being made with a multiplicity of massaging fingers,as 12. Mount ed in said receiving depression or recess 7 is a nut 13, into which is secured a screwthreaded shank 1A, passing through the opening 10 in the cap-like element 9 and through the hole or perforation 8 in the button, as 1, said shank 14: being of the proper length, and having suitably affixed upon its opposite end-portion, a retaining plate or member, as 15. Upon the said shank 1A is a locknut 16, and between this nut 16 and the back of the button A, and also mounted upon said shank 1%, is the inwardly pressed central portion 18 of a flexible guard, as 17, said'guard being made ofrubber, or analogous material, and its surrounding marginal portion 19 being molded in a manner so as to extend in a forward direction and securely embrace the rounded marginal evident. Also mounted upon the shank lel and located between the lock-nut 16 and the retaining plate 15 is a flexible guard-member or element, as 20, made of rubber or other analogous material.
In order to detachably secure the massaging device just described upon the handle 2 ofthe brush 1, a split clamping ring, as 21, is employed, which is slipped over the end of the handle, into the position indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. As shown, more especially in Fig. 5, this clamp ing ring 21 is provided upon its split endportions 22 and 23 with screw-receiving sockets as 24: and 25, respectively, the sockets 24- being internally screw-threaded, and the sockets 25 having smooth bores, for the reception of suitably constructed tightening or binding screws 26. As is further shown in said Fig. 5, the said end- portions 22 and 23 of the split ring 21 are also cut away, as at 27, to suitably and firmly embrace the flexible guard-member or element 20, and to retain the clamping ring in its properly alined relation with the other elements of the massaging device, prior to arranging the latter upon the handle of the brush and before securing the massaging device in its,
struction of the said parts, without departing from the scope of the present invention 7 as set forth in the foregoing specification saging element provided with massaging members, a flexible guard mounted upon the back of said element, said guard having a forwardly extending marginal portion embracing the marginal portion of the mas: saglng element, and means connected with said massaging element for detachably securing said massaging device to the handle of a brush or the. like.
