This invention comprises novel and useful improvements in a bath brush and more specifically pertains to a detachable handle means for a bath brush for enhancing the utility thereof.

The principal object of this invention resides in the provision of a simple but advanta eous construction of detachable handle for a bath brush, to thereby augment the utility of the brush and facilitate its use in reaching heretofore inaccessible locations.

The principal feature of the invention resides in the provision of a pair of detachable handles having readily employed fastening means for quickly securing and removing the same from a hand brush as occasion requires.

These, with various other features and objects of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this device, the preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hand brush showing detachable handles forming the subject matter of this invention applied thereto;

Figure 2 is a detail plan view showing on enlarged scale the manner of securing a handle to a brush in accordance with this invention;

Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through a suitable construction of brush which may be employed with this invention;

Figure 4 is a plan view of one of the detachable handles, parts being broken away, and

Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical transverse sectional view taken substantially from the plane in section 5-5 of Figure 4.

Referring now more specifically to the accompanying drawings, wherein like numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, It] indicates a conventional form of hand or bath brush to whose body portion is secured in any well known manner a series of bristles l2, and wherein the body portion is preferably curved as at I4 in order to provide a contour for the brush suited for various particular purposes.

At each end of the brush body [0, there is provided a plurality of fastening means, which may conveniently consist of headed portion l5 carried by stems l8 rising from plate member 20 which are preferably embedded within the body portion i9. Conveniently, the body portion [0 may be of a suitable plastic material within which the bristles and the fasteners are molded.

Extending from opposite ends of the body portion are a pair of detachable, preferably metallic strips 22 of suitable flexible material constituting the handles for enhancing the usefulness of the brush. These handles are preferably provided with apertures 24 at their outer extremities constituting means for hanging the handle or brush as required, for passing a strap or ribbon therethrough, or the like. The flexible handles 22 are secured to the fasteners in the brush body by means of pairs of apertures, these pairs consisting of a relatively large aperture 26, communicating with a spaced relatively smaller aperture 28 as by a slot or slit 3!) in the material of the handle.

Each pair of apertures therefore resembles the well known key hole type of fastener, and the larger aperture 26 is of such size as to easily permit the passage of the head l6 therethrough, while the smaller aperture 28 is preferably so proportioned as to retain the end therein, thus preventing free movement of the stem [8 therein. In order to lock or retain the handles in their engaged positions upon the fasteners of the brush, the walls of the slot 30 are preferably in abutting engagement with each other, whereby the walls of the slot may be flexed or deformed to yield sufiiciently to permit the passage of the stem [8 as the latter is forced from the larger aperture to the smaller. When however the stem has become positioned in the smaller aperture, the walls of the slot will yieldingly close, and prevent return passage of the stem unless a considerable force is applied thereto, thus tightly securing the handles to the fasteners and preventing the accidental disengagement of the handles from the brush.

From the foregoing, the construction operation of the device will be readily understood. If desired, the handles may be removed, and the brush body employed as a hand brush in a customary manner. However, one or more handles may be readily applied if desired, thus adapting the brush to reach into position, such as for example scrubbing the back of the user when taking a bath, and for numerous other uses in further inaccessible places.

Since numerous modifications may occur to those skilled in the art after consideration of the foregoing specification and attached drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to falling within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus disclosed and described the intion, what is claimed as new:

1. A brush comprising an elongated bod having bristles secured to one side thereof, the other side of said body having relatively raised ends and a depressed mid portion, fasteners secured in each of said raised ends and extending thereabove, handles comprising flat metallic strips having means for detachable engagement with said fasteners upon sliding movement of said handles longitudinally of said body.

2. A brush comprising an elongated body having bristles secured to one side thereof, the other side of said body having relatively raised ends and a depressed mid portion, headed fasteners secured in each of said raised ends and extending thereabove, handles comprising flat metallic strips having means for detachable engagement with said fasteners upon sliding movement of said handles longitudinally of said body, said means comprising terminal apertures in said handles engageable with the heads forming a part of said fasteners.

A brush comprising an elongated body having bristles secured to one side thereof, the other side of said body having relatively raised ends and a depressed mid portion, fasteners secured 4 in each of said raised ends and extending thereabove, handles comprising flat metallic strips having means for detachable engagement with said fasteners upon sliding movement of said handles longitudinally of said body, said means comprising elongated keyhole slots in said handles adjacent one end thereof, the walls of said slots being yieldable to permit passage of said fasteners along said slot.
