This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in caps and has as its primary object to provide a cap having a translucentor semi-transparent vizor adapted to form a shade for the eyes of the wearer of the cap to thus exclude an excess amount of light, while at the same time, vision may be had through the vizor. and wherein the vizor is so arranged as to also provide a protection for the eyes against dust or in inclement weather.

The invention has as a further object to provide a cap of this character wherein the viz-0r will be securely engaged with the crown of the cap, and wherein the vizor will be so secured thereto that cutting or abrasion of the adjacent portion of the fabric of the crown by the adjacent edge of the vizor will be prevented.

A still further object of. the invention is to provide a cap having the above set forth features of construction and wherein the vizor will. be so connected with the cap as to form a neat and secure juncture therewith, and wherein the adjacent portions of the crown contiguous with said juncture will be so arranged as to form a padding between.

the inner edge of the vizor and the head of the wearerto provide a thoroughly conifortable construction.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, the numeral 10 indicates the crown of my improved cap which may be formed of any suitable fabric and which includes the side wall 11 and the top 12. Arranged within. the crown 10 contiguous to the side wall 11 thereof is a sweat band 1 which is arranged to extend throughout the entire width of the side wall 11 and overlapping at its upper extremity. the top 12, as shown, to form in effect. a lining for the said side wall. The contiguous overlapping portions of the sweatba'nd. the top 12 and the side wall 11 are secured together preferably by,

a single line ot' stitching 14 adjacent the upper extremity of the crown. the side wall 11 being preferably turned in adjacent the upper edge thereof as shown at 15 to bear against. the margin of the top 12. it being noted that by such construction. the several pieces of fabric forming the crown are joined together by a single line of stitching.

Adjacent its lower extremity. the side wall 11 is turned in. as shown at 16 to provide a pocket entirely inclosing a. reinforcing strip 17. The reinforcing strip 17 may be of any suitable material butis preferably made from relatively thick fibrous paper, fora primary reason which will presently appear and for a further reason to provide a stiffening; for the free edge of the side wall 11 so that the crown 10 may be easily positioned upon the head. However. it is to be observed at this point. that in thus entirely .inclosing the reinforcing strip 17, the said strip will not only be thoroughly protected in the practical use of the cap. but the pos sibilityvof the displacement of the strip will be reduced to a minimum. l urtherinore, since the inwardly turned portion of the side wall of the crownis disposed between the reinforcing strip and the head of the wearer, said inwardly turned portion will tend to prevent perspiration from gaining access to the strip to cause the. deterioration thereof. 7

Arranged upon one sideof the crown 10 and projecting from the lower extremity of the side .wall 11 thereof is a vizor 19 which is preferably formed with an inner straight edge 20, and an outer edge which is curved The upper margin 21 of the vizor is interposed between the overlapping portions 16 and 18 of the side wall 11 and of the lining 13 respectively, with the inner straight edge overlapping portions and of the reinforcing strip 17. It will be noted that the crown of the cap is protected against wear by the inner edge 20 of the vizor and at the same time a thoroughly comfortable structure is provided. r

Preferably, the side wall 11 and the lining 13. are secured .together adjacent their lower extremities by. a single lin e of stitching 22 which extends therethrough and through the overlapping portions 16 and l8 thereof as well as through the reinforcing strip 17, thus binding the contiguouls portions of the sweat band-'13 and of the cpown 10 together and serving to maintain the reinforcing strip 17 in-position. Attention is also'called to the fact that where the,line of stitching 22 traverses the vizor 19, the said line of stitching also extends through the vizor and hus connects the vizor with the crown of the cap. Obviously this is a very advantageous construction and arrangement since the several parts of the cap'are connected and held in operative position by but two lines of stitching, namely, the line of stitch ing 14 and the line of stitching 22.

The vizor 19 is preferably formed of some suitable flexible translucent or semi-transparent material, such as celluloid} which the vizor 19" to thus of the vizor that said vizor is so arranged as to effectually shade the-eyes from excess light and isal'so disposed so as to protect the eyes in inclement weather; If desired,'aseries of longitudinally disposed apertures 23 may be formed in the vizor 19 adjacent the crown 10 to thus efifecta proper, ventilation beneath the vizor in use.

Having thus described my invention,
